About the Role The Head of Procurement will lead the procurement strategy for raw materials, excipients, APIs, packaging components, and critical services that support the formulation and manufacturing of oral solid dosage forms (tablets and capsules). The role ensures cost efficiency, regulatory compliance, supplier performance, and continuity of supply across global operations and client programs. Key Responsibilities Strategic Procurement Leadership Develop and implement a global procurement strategy for raw materials, APIs, excipients, and packaging materials used in tablet and capsule manufacturing. Lead category management and strategic sourcing initiatives for solid oral dosage products. Drive procurement excellence by optimizing total cost of ownership and improving supply chain resilience. Supplier Management & Development Identify, qualify, and manage suppliers of APIs, excipients, and printed/unprinted packaging components (blisters, bottles, foils, cartons). Build strategic partnerships to ensure supply continuity, quality, and regulatory compliance. Establish and monitor supplier KPIs related to quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness. Operational Procurement Excellence Oversee sourcing activities, from RFQs to contract negotiation and PO execution. Ensure compliance with cGMP, GDP, and regulatory standards (e.g., US FDA, EMA, WHO). Collaborate with cross-functional teams (QA/QC, R&D, Production, Regulatory) to support tech transfers, validation, and scale-up activities. Risk & Compliance Management Implement supply risk assessment and mitigation strategies for critical inputs. Ensure procurement processes align with internal controls and external compliance expectations. Represent procurement in regulatory audits and client inspections as the procurement subject matter expert (SME). Team & Stakeholder Leadership Lead, coach, and develop a high-performance procurement team. Collaborate with internal stakeholders across operations, finance, legal, and project management. Engage directly with clients and partners during due diligence and onboarding phases. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Engineering, or Supply Chain. MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred. 10–15 years of progressive procurement experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within a formulations-based pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. Strong expertise in sourcing APIs, excipients, and packaging for oral solid dosage forms. Deep understanding of GMP compliance, quality systems, and regulatory frameworks. Proven negotiation, supplier management, and cross-functional leadership skills. Experience with ERP systems and digital procurement tools is advantageous. Develop project plans for all aspects of assigned projects and manage all project activities. Define project's scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with stakeholders. Establish and lead cross functional project teams and status meetings.
