Job Description

Role & responsibilities

Staff Nurse is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and compassionate nursing care to outpatients, assisting doctors during consultations and procedures, and ensuring smooth functioning of the OPD in compliance with hospital policies and NABH standards.

Preferred candidate profile

Patient Care & Clinical Support

  • Receive, assess, and prepare patients for consultation.
  • Record

    vital signs, medical history, and complaints

    accurately.
  • Assist doctors during OPD procedures and examinations.
  • Administer medications and injections as prescribed.
  • Perform wound dressing, suture removal, nebulization, ECG, and other OPD procedures.
  • Observe patients for adverse reactions and report promptly.

OPD Coordination & Flow Management

  • Ensure smooth patient flow and reduce waiting time.
  • Coordinate with consultants, billing, pharmacy, diagnostics, and admissions.
  • Guide patients regarding investigations, procedures, and follow-up visits.
  • Handle emergency situations in OPD and escalate appropriately.

Infection Control & Safety

  • Follow

    infection prevention and control (IPC)

    protocols.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and hand hygiene.
  • Adhere to

    biomedical waste segregation

    guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of OPD areas and equipment.

Documentation & Records

  • Maintain accurate nursing notes and OPD registers.
  • Ensure consent forms and documentation are completed.
  • Update patient records in

    HIS / EMR systems

    .
  • Support medico-legal documentation when required.

Quality & NABH Compliance

  • Comply with

    NABH nursing standards and hospital policies

    .
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and training programs.
  • Report incidents, near misses, and patient safety concerns.

Inventory & Equipment Management

  • Ensure availability of OPD consumables and emergency drugs.
  • Check and maintain OPD equipment (BP apparatus, pulse oximeter, ECG).
  • Report equipment faults for timely repair.

Patient Education & Counseling

  • Educate patients on medications, procedures, and lifestyle advice as instructed by doctors.
  • Provide health education related to disease prevention and follow-up care.
  • Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.

Skills & Competencies

  • Good clinical and assessment skills
  • Strong communication and patient-handling skills
  • Knowledge of OPD workflows and procedures
  • Familiarity with

    NABH standards

  • Ability to multitask in a high-volume OPD environment

Qualification & Experience

  • Qualification:

    GNM / B.Sc Nursing
  • Registration:

    Valid State Nursing Council Registration
  • Experience:

    14 years in OPD / clinical nursing (Freshers may be considered as per hospital policy)
