Staff Engineer Backend (Java)

Role Overview: As a Staff Engineer - Backend at our company, you will play a crucial role in defining the technical roadmap and driving innovation. You will work closely with product and engineering leadership to deliver impactful solutions, analyze requirements, and transform them into scalable software designs. Your strong advocacy for code craftsmanship and good coding standards will ensure the quality of the delivered code. Key Responsibilities: - Define and execute the backend technology strategy - Drive innovation and experimentation - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver business outcomes Qualifications Required: - 8+ years of backend development experience and a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field - Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java) - Expertise in back-end development using Java EE technologies such as Java language, application servers, servlet containers, JMS, JPA, Spring MVC, and Hibernate - Leadership in designing and architecting scalable backend systems focusing on cloud-native solutions, microservices, and serverless architectures - Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams, drive technical roadmaps, and ensure alignment with business objectives - Experience in designing and implementing fault-tolerant systems with a focus on high availability and disaster recovery - Knowledge of advanced security practices, including secure coding, encryption, and access control - Ability to influence and mentor engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement - Deep expertise in backend technologies and architecture Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology for software development - Experience with large-scale, high-performance systems - Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Azure - Contributions to open-source projects Note: To learn more about our culture and community, please visit our website at https://about.pypl.com/who-we-are/default.aspx.
