Job Description: Cold Storage Goods Handler (Fresh Fruits & Vegetables – Logistics) Position: Cold Storage Goods Handler / Loader & Unloader Department: Logistics & Warehouse Location: Cold Storage / Packhouse Facility Industry: Fresh Fruits & Vegetables (FFV) / Export Logistics 1. Job Summary The Cold Storage Goods Handler is responsible for safe and efficient handling of temperature-sensitive imported fresh fruits and vegetables in the cold storage facility. The role includes loading, unloading, stacking, sorting, palletizing, and maintaining product quality while supporting smooth logistics operations, especially during container stuffing and de-stuffing. 2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Loading & Unloading Operations Load and unload imported fresh fruits and vegetables from trucks, reefers, and export containers. Ensure proper pallet handling using manual pallet trucks / forklifts (if trained). Follow correct stacking, spacing, and weight-distribution procedures. Assist in stuffing export containers as per customer and shipping line requirements. Verify product labels, count cartons, and match them with dispatch documents. B. Cold Storage Handling Maintain cold chain integrity during product movement. Ensure products are kept at the correct temperature and humidity conditions. Minimize product damage through careful handling. Rotate inventory using FIFO/FEFO principles. C. Quality & Safety Inspect cartons for damage, spoilage, or temperature abuse. Follow hygiene and food-safety protocols inside the cold room. Use PPE (gloves, jackets, shoes) while working in cold temperatures. Follow safety guidelines while working around equipment and heavy loads. D. Documentation Support Assist warehouse supervisor in updating inward/outward records. Provide carton counts, pallet numbers, and loading details accurately. Support in preparing checklists for container sealing and dispatch. E. Housekeeping & Maintenance Keep loading docks, cold rooms, and staging areas clean and organized. Report equipment issues (pallet jacks, doors, racks, etc.) to supervisors. Maintain cleanliness as per export standards (EIC/FSSAI). 3. Required Skills & Qualifications Experience in warehouse/cold storage/packhouse operations (preferred). Basic understanding of fruit & vegetable handling. Ability to work in low-temperature environments (0–10°C). Physically fit for lifting and manual handling tasks. Knowledge of palletizing, stacking, and container loading techniques. Ability to read labels, count inventory, and follow SOPs. 4. Personal Attributes Disciplined and punctual. Good teamwork and communication. Attention to detail to avoid product damage. Safety-conscious while working with equipment and heavy loads. 5. Working Conditions Work inside cold rooms with controlled temperature. Shift-based working hours depending on shipment schedules. Use of protective clothing and safety equipment required. 6. Job Purpose To ensure smooth, timely, and damage-free handling of fresh fruit & vegetable consignments in cold storage and during export container operations, maintaining quality standards and supporting efficient logistics operations.
