Speech Therapist

Role & responsibilities

1. Assessment and Diagnosis The speech therapist will be responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments to identify students' communication and swallowing disorders. This includes using a variety of standardized and informal tools to accurately diagnose specific speech and language difficulties.

2. Individualized Therapy Planning Following assessment, the therapist will create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students. These plans will include measurable goals and evidence-based strategies tailored to each student's unique needs to improve their communication skills.

3. Direct Therapy and Intervention The role involves providing direct therapy services to students, both individually and in small groups. The therapist will use engaging and appropriate therapeutic techniques to address articulation, fluency, voice, language, and pragmatic social skills.

4. Collaboration and Consultation The speech therapist will collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and other school staff to support students'

communication development across all school settings. They will provide guidance and training to educators and families on how to best support students' communication goals in the classroom and at home.

5. Documentation and Reporting Accurate and timely documentation of student progress, therapy sessions, and communication with families is essential. The therapist will be responsible for writing detailed reports, maintaining student files, and ensuring all documentation complies with school and regulatory standards.

6. Professional Development and Program Support This position requires active participation in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in speech-language pathology. The therapist will also contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives that promote communication and language development for all students.
