Key Responsibilities Code Analysis: Review and analyze radiology reports (e.g., X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine) to identify and assign accurate diagnostic and procedural codes. Code Assignment: Determine and assign appropriate CPT, ICD-10, and modifier codes based on the imaging technique, location, patient position, and use of contrast. Documentation Review: Ensure that all necessary documentation and justification are present in the patient's medical records to support the assigned codes. Compliance: Ensure coding practices comply with federal, commercial, and third-party insurance guidelines, as well as other relevant regulations. Collaboration: Work with radiologists, billing staff, and auditors to clarify coding discrepancies and resolve claim denials. Regulatory Updates: Stay current with changes in coding guidelines, NCCI edits, and other relevant regulatory updates to maintain compliance. Quality Improvement: Support initiatives related to coding accuracy and quality improvement efforts. Confidentiality: Adhere to strict confidentiality and HIPAA policies to protect patient information. Essential Skills and Qualifications Proficiency in CPT, ICD-10-CM, and other radiology coding systems. Strong understanding of radiology terminology and procedures. High attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication skills. Relevant experience in medical coding. Certification by a recognized medical coding organization, such as the AAPC. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHRs) and other billing software.
