The Research Analytics group at SIMATS combines quantitative methods, molecular and systems biology, and computational approaches to deliver high-impact research and data-driven solutions in health and nutrition. Role description We are seeking a full-time/Part-time PhD Research Scholar / Doctoral Research Scholar to join the Research Analytics team. The successful candidate will conduct advanced quantitative and experimental research, apply statistical and mathematical methodologies to complex datasets, develop reproducible data-driven insights, and contribute to high-impact publications. The role requires on/off-site presence in Chennai and involves close collaboration with faculty, clinicians and data scientists across interdisciplinary projects. Key responsibilities Design and execute quantitative and molecular research projects using statistical, mathematical, computational, and laboratory methods. Analyze large, heterogeneous datasets (omics, clinical, behavioral, or other relevant sources). Develop reproducible workflows, scripts, and documentation for data processing and analysis. Prepare research reports, manuscripts, and presentations for academic and stakeholder audiences; lead writing of scientific papers. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and contribute to grant proposals and project planning. Mentor junior researchers and participate in seminars and group meetings. Qualifications Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field. Candidates with a strong biochemistry/biotech background and molecular lab skills are especially encouraged to apply. Strong foundation in statistical theory and mathematical modeling. Practical molecular biology skills (experimental design, wet-lab techniques) and experience with omics data are highly desirable. Proficiency in quantitative research methods and data analysis (Python, R, MATLAB or equivalent). Demonstrated ability in scientific writing, a strong track record, or clear aptitude for drafting and publishing research papers is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting research findings. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Enrollment in or eligibility for a PhD program is required (candidates should either meet eligibility criteria for PhD admission or be willing to register). Background in academic research, publishing or experience with research methodologies and academic writing is a plus. Experience in quantitative investing, machine learning, omics analysis or domain-specific computational methods is advantageous but not mandatory.
