Role Description The GIS/Data Visualisation Expert is responsible for managing, analysing, and visualising geospatial and tabular data to support decision-making and planning. This role combines technical GIS expertise with data visualisation skills, ensuring that complex datasets are transformed into clear, meaningful insights through interactive maps, dashboards, and visual reports. Key Responsibilities Geospatial Data Management & Analysis Collect, process, clean, and manage spatial and non-spatial datasets from various internal and external sources. Develop and maintain spatial databases, including setting up relational and geospatial data structures. Perform geospatial analysis such as buffering, overlay, interpolation, and spatial statistics. Ensure accuracy, consistency, and standardisation of geospatial data. GIS Application Development & Integration Design and implement GIS layers for web-based and desktop applications. Integrate GIS systems with databases and APIs to enable real-time spatial data updates. Work closely with backend and frontend developers to incorporate geospatial functionality into software platforms. Data Visualisation & Dashboarding Develop interactive dashboards, charts, and reports using tools like Tableau, Power BI, D3.js, or similar frameworks. Build interactive web maps and visualisations using ArcGIS Online, Leaflet, Mapbox, or QGIS plugins. Create user-friendly visualisations to simplify complex datasets for stakeholders and decision-makers. Apply best practices in UX/UI for data storytelling and visual analytics. Collaboration & Documentation Collaborate with database administrators, software architects, and domain experts to align geospatial outputs with project goals. Provide technical documentation, metadata, and visualisation guidelines. Train end-users and team members in using GIS applications and visualisation tools. Required Qualifications Education : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geoinformatics, GIS, Computer Science, Data Science, Environmental Science, or related fields . Experience : At least 3–5 years of professional experience working with GIS systems and data visualisation platforms. Technical Skills : Strong knowledge of GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, GeoServer, PostGIS). Proficiency in data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau, D3.js, Plotly, etc.). Experience with spatial databases and SQL queries. Familiarity with geospatial APIs and web mapping frameworks (Leaflet, OpenLayers, Mapbox). Programming : Basic to intermediate proficiency in Python, R, or JavaScript for geospatial analysis and visualisation. Other Skills : Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams. Preferred Skills Knowledge of climate, demographic, or socio-economic datasets .
