Senior Solution Architect

Job Summary

Walgreens is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to provide advanced expertise and individual-contributor leadership across software engineering. This role will lead complex work, shape solution direction, mentor others through influence, and partner across teams to deliver reliable, scalable, secure, and measurable outcomes.

Key Requirements

• Extensive experience leading complex software engineering initiatives across the full software development lifecycle.
• Strong expertise in application architecture, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and modernization.
• Ability to define and implement engineering standards, best practices, reusable frameworks, and design patterns.
• Proven capability to translate business and enterprise priorities into technical solutions and execution plans.
• Experience managing and resolving complex technical risks, dependencies, and architectural trade-offs.
• Deep understanding of software quality, security, privacy, reliability, automation, and operational excellence.
• Ability to provide technical leadership during critical production issues, incident management, and delivery challenges.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with experience influencing Product, Business, Architecture, Security, Data, and Technology teams without direct authority.
• Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers through code reviews, design reviews, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain technical strategies, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
• Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, Agile methodologies, DevOps, CI/CD, cloud technologies, and automation.
• Commitment to continuous learning with awareness of emerging technologies, industry trends, and engineering innovations.
• Proven track record of driving continuous improvement, innovation, and engineering excellence across teams and programs.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field.
• 12-15 years of experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, or Platform Engineering.
• Hands-on experience with application development, cloud platforms, CI/CD, and software modernization.
• Strong problem-solving, stakeholder management, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform, and DevOps automation tools.
• Experience in enterprise-scale retail, healthcare, pharmacy, or digital technology environments.
• Experience supporting global teams and distributed delivery models.
