Senior Software Engineer - Backend (Java)

We are the Model Development and Production team in the AIML Platform and Solutions organization, building and maintaining PayPal s enterprise AI/ML platform that supports data scientists and engineers globally. With teams across the US, China, and India, we drive large-scale innovation. As one of the early engineers in Bangalore, you will help establish the team s foundation and operations.
About the Role You will design and implement large-scale, distributed AI/ML model deployment systems with high scalability and low latency. Working with cross-functional teams, you ll deliver end-to-end features, follow best coding practices, and contribute in an agile setup. Key responsibilities include solving scalability challenges, optimizing performance, and ensuring fault tolerance. Experience in distributed systems, microservices, or AI/ML platforms is preferred. Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential to influence technical direction and business impact.

• Delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (design, implementation, testing, delivery and operations), based on definitions from more senior roles.
• Advises immediate management on project-level issues
• Guides junior engineers
• Operates with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices
• Applies knowledge of technical best practices in making decisions

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
