Job Description

Role & responsibilities

Preoperative assessment:

  • Anesthesia administration:

    Initiating and managing anesthesia in the operating room, selecting appropriate anesthetic agents and techniques based on the patient's condition and surgical procedure.
  • Patient monitoring:

    Continuously monitoring vital signs like heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, and oxygen saturation during surgery, making necessary adjustments to anesthetic depth as needed.
  • Airway management:

    Performing tracheal intubation and managing the airway during surgery, including airway maintenance and emergency interventions if required.
  • Pain management:

    Implementing strategies for effective pain control during and after surgery, including regional anesthesia techniques when appropriate.
  • Postoperative care:

    Overseeing patient recovery in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), monitoring vital signs, managing potential complications, and providing pain relief as needed.
  • Emergency response:

    Recognizing and effectively managing anesthesia-related complications like hypotension, arrhythmias, and unexpected bleeding.
  • Teaching and supervision:

    Guiding and instructing junior residents and nursing staff on proper anesthesia techniques, patient care practices, and crisis management.
  • Documentation:

    Maintaining detailed patient records, including pre-operative assessments, anesthetic plan, intraoperative notes, and post-operative care details.
  • Clinical research:

    Participating in research projects related to anesthesia practices and patient outcomes, including data collection and analysis.

Senior resident's role:

  • Independent decision-making:

    Ability to make informed decisions regarding anesthetic management based on patient assessment and clinical situation.
  • Strong clinical skills:

    Proficiency in various anesthetic techniques, airway management, and monitoring modalities.
  • Communication skills:

    Effective communication with surgeons, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Leadership qualities:

    Providing guidance and mentorship to junior residents while maintaining high standards of patient care.
