Senior Project Officer / Senior Specialist Ecological Restoration

As a candidate for the position at WWF-India focused on ecological restoration in the Eastern Himalayas, you will play a crucial role in restoring and protecting fragile ecosystems. Your responsibilities will include: - Leading and overseeing on-ground implementation of reforestation and nursery initiatives. - Designing and conducting field studies and assessments to inform and refine restoration strategies. - Monitoring ecological restoration outcomes and assessing improvements in ecosystem services. - Identifying degraded forest areas and prioritizing sites for restoration. - Contributing to high-quality reporting and the development of peer-reviewed publications. You will also be expected to engage regularly with key stakeholders such as the Forest Department, District Administration, Panchayats, Tea Garden Management, village and community groups to ensure smooth implementation and coordination. Collaboration with partners for planning, knowledge sharing, and joint actions will be essential. Additionally, you will support the preparation of quarterly technical reports, annual summaries, publications, and other communication outputs to effectively communicate the progress and impact of restoration efforts. The ideal candidate for this role should have: - A Masters Degree in Botany, Forestry, Agroforestry, Ecological Restoration, or a related field. - Field experience in the Eastern Himalayas, particularly in Himalayan flora and fauna, with expertise in plant taxonomy, species identification, reforestation, and ecological restoration practices. - Experience and familiarity with basic GIS tools, data entry, and analysis skills. - Prior work experience in the Sikkim-Darjeeling Himalaya is preferred. - Proficiency in Nepali and Hindi is desirable.
