Job Description

WWF-India is looking for passionate and skilled individuals to join their mission of restoring and protecting the fragile ecosystems of the Eastern Himalayas. If you are excited about understanding forest degradation, designing context-specific ecological restoration strategies, and bringing forests and their biodiversity back to life, then this role is perfect for you. Candidates with hands-on experience in ecological restoration, natural resource management, and the planning, implementation, and monitoring of restoration projects are encouraged to apply. A background in plant taxonomy or botany, along with strong field skills in plant identification, is highly desirable. Based at the Darjeeling Field Office, the selected candidate will lead and support restoration efforts across the Khangchendzonga Landscape, with opportunities to contribute to similar work in Sikkim. From analyzing degraded forest systems to nurturing landscapes back to life, this position offers a unique opportunity to witness the transformation of forests, ecosystems, and communities. The candidate will work closely with the KCL team towards program implementation and technical support, including overseeing on-ground implementation of reforestation and nursery initiatives, designing and conducting field studies and assessments, monitoring ecological restoration outcomes, identifying degraded forest areas, and contributing to reporting and publications. In addition, stakeholder engagement and communication will be a key aspect of the role, involving regular interaction with various stakeholders such as the Forest Department, District Administration, Panchayats, Tea Garden Management, village and community groups, and partners for planning and knowledge sharing. The candidate will also be responsible for supporting the preparation of technical reports, summaries, publications, and other communication outputs. The ideal candidate should have a Masters Degree in Botany, Forestry, Agroforestry, Ecological Restoration, or a related field, along with field experience in the Eastern Himalayas, particularly in Himalayan flora and fauna. Proficiency in basic GIS tools, data entry, and analysis skills is essential, with a preference for candidates with prior work experience in the Sikkim-Darjeeling Himalaya. Proficiency in Nepali and Hindi is desirable. This role offers a dynamic opportunity to shape and steer restoration efforts in one of the Himalayas" most vital landscapes, translating science into action and witnessing forests come back to life.,
