Description
As a Finance Business Partner, R&D at ThoughtSpot, you will play a critical role in driving financial strategy and operational excellence within the Product and Engineering teams. Your responsibilities will go beyond traditional finance as you will be delivering forward-looking insights, enabling smarter investment decisions, and building tools that help the business operate more effectively. Success in this role requires a proactive mindset, a drive to raise the bar, and the ability to operate with urgency in a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with Product and Engineering leaders to align financial plans with operational strategies, ensuring investments drive innovation and efficiency. Monitoring and managing R&D spending, conducting Budget vs. Actual (BvA) analysis, and providing forecasts that support agile decision-making will be a key part of your role. Additionally, you will partner with budget owners and HR to track hiring plans, ensuring alignment with growth and product roadmaps. Your responsibilities will also include building scalable templates and lightweight tools to bridge data gaps, translate upstream inputs into actionable insights, and support day-to-day business management. Developing and enhancing budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes in Adaptive Planning to improve accuracy, efficiency, and decision-making will be crucial. Acting as a bridge between R&D and company-wide FP&A, ensuring financial processes are consistent and decision-making is informed will be part of your role as well. You will also drive high-impact analyses and initiatives that support growth, efficiency, and strategic investment decisions. To be successful in this role, you should ideally have 8+ years of experience in finance, FP&A, or related fields, preferably within a SaaS or technology environment. Your ability to translate ambiguous or incomplete data into structured analysis and build repeatable templates that enable better business execution and insight generation will be essential. Strong communication and influencing skills, a bias for action, technical proficiency in financial modeling and forecasting, attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy, data integrity, and continuous process improvement are also required.
