Senior Cloud Database Engineer (Postgres DBA)

You will be responsible for ensuring that Motive's databases are performant, reliable, scalable, and automated. As a Database Engineer, you will oversee more than 100 databases, primarily Postgres, and contribute to the success of Motive's expanded use of AWS managed data layer services. Your role will involve collaborating with product team engineers on various use cases to analyze performance, provide optimizations, and assist with query tuning to support safe scaling. Additionally, you will play a crucial part in achieving 99.99% SLAs by focusing on reliability in zero-downtime upgrades and maintenance. **Key Responsibilities:** - Design and implement high availability database architecture in AWS - Partner with developers and SREs to automate infrastructure provisioning - Monitor and enhance database performance through query and index tuning, schema updates, and partitioning - Collaborate with developers to optimize database queries - Work with Data and ML teams on Kafka and Snowflake integrations and data flows - Perform Database Administrator tasks and maintenance to ensure table health - Plan and execute disaster recovery scenarios - Create dashboards for database health and alerting - Deploy database instances, users, groups, and permissions using Terraform - Manage database upgrades and migrations with minimal to zero downtime - Participate in on-call duty for responding to production incidents **Qualifications Required:** - B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience - 5+ years of overall experience with 3+ years working with PostgreSQL - Experience in building and maintaining mission-critical production PostgreSQL databases - Strong understanding of PostgreSQL database architecture and concepts - Experience with AWS managed services like Aurora - Proficiency in high-availability, backup and recovery solutions - Advanced knowledge of query tuning and optimization - Experience provisioning PostgreSQL databases in AWS using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible - Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog, New Relic, Sumo Logic - Experience with other databases like DynamoDB, Redshift, Elasticsearch, Snowflake is a plus You will be contributing to a diverse and inclusive workplace at Motive, as creating such an environment is one of our core values.
