Percona is looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer with deep expertise in Golang to join our open-source engineering team and help us continue building Percona Monitoring and Management (PMM). This is a senior individual contributor role for an engineer who thrives on solving challenging problems, is motivated by technical ownership, and is passionate about open-source innovation.You will be contributing to further enhancing and extending PMM, a free and open-source platform for monitoring the performance of open-source SQL/NoSQL-based databases, servers, and cloud instances.This is an amazing opportunity as we're entering a new chapter for PMM development. The objectives are ambitious, the work is challenging, but that's why it's also fun and rewarding!This is a remote role, allowing you to work from your home office while collaborating with a globally distributed team using modern online tools. You'll be part of a fast-paced, high-quality engineering environment focused on delivering value to Percona and its worldwide user base. Occasional traveltypically once per yearmay be expected for team meet-ups or company events.
What You Will Do
- Develop scalable, high-volume, performant applications focused on simplicity and user delight
- Produce high-quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed and checked in regularly for continuous integration
- Collaborate intensely with other engineers, designers, and product managers
- Participate in code and design reviews, teaching and learning from other engineers
- Identify and uphold engineering best practices
- Identify, leverage, and successfully evangelize opportunities to improve engineering productivity
- Train, mentor and support other engineers
Your Experience
- Ability to work as a team player as well as independently in a fully remote environment
- 5+ years of experience in Golang or similar programming languages with strong programming fundamentals (C++, OO)
- Experience with databases, preferably MongoDB, MySQL or PostgreSQL (not expert, scaling, large deployment, cluster. Not operating. Any DB, ideally our stack
- Comfortable with Linux (basic usage as a programmer)
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience designing, building, and documenting APIs
- Experience writing and maintaining unit tests
- Fluent in written and verbal English language skills
What Will Make You Stand Out
- Experience in database monitoring and system observability in general
- Knowledge of other databases/data stores (Memcached, ClickHouse, Valkey/Redis)
- Experience in leveraging and integrating AI/ML capabilities into software products
- Experience with continuous deployment to cloud / virtualized environments (DevOps)
- Development experience on cloud computing platform (AWS, Azure or OpenShift)
- Experience with Prometheus or VictoriaMetrics
- Deep knowledge of security and encryption techniques for transmitting and storing sensitive data
- Open source development experience
