Overview We are seeking a skilled and reliable Ruby on Rails Developer to support and enhance a cloud-based healthcare platform built on Ruby on Rails 6 and Ruby 3.2 . The application uses traditional server-side rendering with Foundation 5 for UI styling, and integrates with PostgreSQL , Elasticsearch , and healthcare data standards such as FHIR . The developer must be able to take over the project from the existing development team , ensuring smooth knowledge transition and continuity. Strong communication skills, self-discipline, and responsiveness are essential for this role. Key Responsibilities Take ownership of the codebase and manage transition from the current development team , including documentation, environment setup, and knowledge transfer. Develop, maintain, and optimise features using Ruby on Rails 6 / Ruby 3.2 . Work with server-side rendering (views, partials, layouts) — no modern JS frameworks required. Implement UI styling using Foundation 5 CSS framework. Build, maintain, and optimise PostgreSQL schemas and queries. Maintain and improve Elasticsearch provider search functionality. Assist with FHIR-based data structures and healthcare interoperability as needed. Troubleshoot production issues and support platform stability. Work closely with the onshore (Australia) team, following agile and transparent communication practices. Write clean, testable, well-structured code with proper documentation. Required Skills & Experience 3+ years hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails . Solid understanding of Ruby 3.x , Rails 6 , MVC architecture, and backend development. Strong experience with traditional SSR (no React / Vue required). Proficiency in PostgreSQL — query tuning, indexing, schema design. Experience integrating and managing Elasticsearch . Familiarity with CSS frameworks (preferably Foundation 5 ). Strong debugging skills and ability to take ownership of a legacy or existing codebase. Experience with Git workflows and CI/CD. Proven ability to work remotely with excellent reliability and accountability. Nice-to-Have Skills Understanding of FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) and HL7 healthcare data standards. Experience in the healthcare, clinical, or medical software domain. Knowledge of REST APIs, authentication, and security best practices. Exposure to DevOps tools (AWS, Docker, Terraform, etc.).
