Job Description

Location: Goa Shipyard
Department: Hull / Deck / Production Department
Reporting To: Site Supervisor / Project Manager

Job Summary:

The Rigger is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining rigging equipment used to lift, move, position, and secure heavy loads during shipbuilding, ship repair, and offshore operations. The role requires strong knowledge of lifting techniques, rigging gear, and safety procedures to ensure efficient and accident-free operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, inspect, and maintain rigging equipment such as slings, shackles, pulleys, wire ropes, and lifting gear.
  • Set up rigging for the movement, alignment, and installation of ship components, machinery, and structures.
  • Assist in lifting and positioning large sections such as hull blocks, engines, propellers, and heavy materials.
  • Work with crane operators, supervisors, and fitters to ensure safe and coordinated lifting operations.
  • Conduct pre-lift safety checks and ensure all lifting tools and tackles are certified and in good condition.
  • Signal or guide crane operators during lifting and moving of materials.
  • Follow proper load calculation, balancing, and securing techniques to prevent accidents.
  • Maintain housekeeping and adhere strictly to shipyard safety standards and procedures.
  • Report any defects, unsafe practices, or incidents to supervisors immediately.
  • Support other operations such as scaffolding, mooring, and vessel outfitting when required.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Good knowledge of rigging equipment, load charts, and lifting procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand lifting plans and instructions.
  • Skilled in hand signaling and coordination with crane operators.
  • Strong sense of safety awareness and teamwork.
  • Physically fit to handle heavy lifting and outdoor work.

Qualification and Experience:

  • ITI or Technical Certification in Rigging / Fitting / Mechanical or related trade.
  • 3–5 years of experience as a rigger in shipbuilding, ship repair, or offshore marine operations.
  • Valid rigging and lifting certification (if applicable) preferred.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From ₹25,000.00 per month
