PROJECT CONTEXT— Development and implementation of forest and agricultural carbon projects in Brazil, including REDD+ initiatives, ARR (Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation), and regenerative agriculture according to Verra methodologies. LOCATION - ● Base: India (remote possible with regular travel) ● Travel: Brazil (regular field missions) CONTRACT TYPE To be defined (Permanent / Senior Consultant / International Contract) KEY RESPONSIBILITIES— Carbon Project Development ● Design and develop REDD+ projects in Brazil compliant with international standards (Verra VCS, Gold Standard) ● Lead the development of ARR (afforestation/reforestation) projects ● Structure agricultural projects according to VM0048 and VM0042 methodologies (Verra) ● Prepare Project Design Documents (PDDs) ● Ensure compliance with carbon methodologies and certification requirements Technical Expertise in Forestry & Agriculture ● Conduct technical feasibility studies (baseline, additionality, permanence) ● Supervise forest inventories and carbon stock assessments ● Define monitoring strategies and forest/agricultural management plans ● Analyze remote sensing data and forest mapping ● Assess leakage and non-permanence risks Validation and Verification ● Prepare projects for validation and verification audits ● Interact with third-party auditors (VVBs - Validation and Verification Bodies) ● Manage non-conformity tracking and corrective actions ● Oversee periodic verification cycles Education ● Required Degree: Master's degree or equivalent in forestry, agronomy, environmental sciences, natural resource management, or related field ● PhD: An asset Required Professional Experience Minimum experience: 7-10 years in carbon project development Mandatory experience in AT LEAST one of the following areas: ● Development of certified REDD+ projects (preferably in Brazil or Latin America) ● Audit of forest/agricultural carbon projects as an auditor for a recognized VVB ● Development of ARR projects according to Verra methodologies Highly desired experience: ● Agricultural projects VM0048 (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation from Conversion of Grasslands and Shrublands to Crop Cultivation) ● Agricultural projects VM0042 (Methodology for Improved Agricultural Land Management) ● Field experience in the Brazilian Amazon or similar biomes Essential Technical Skills Carbon Methodologies: ● In-depth mastery of Verra (VCS) standards and REDD+ methodologies ● Practical knowledge of VM0048 and VM0042 methodologies ● Understanding of AFOLU (Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use) rules ● Familiarity with validation/verification requirements Forestry Expertise: ● Forest inventories and biomass estimation ● Remote sensing and GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine) ● Land use change analysis ● Tropical forest ecology Agricultural Expertise: ● Regenerative and sustainable agricultural practices ● Soil carbon management ● Agroforestry and integrated systems Tools and Methods: ● PDD and monitoring report writing Language Skills ● English: Fluent mandatory (written and spoken) ● Other languages: An asset Personal Qualities ● Scientific rigor and attention to detail ● Ability to work independently and in multicultural teams ● Excellent writing skills (complex technical documents) ● Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously ● Resilience and adaptability for fieldwork in challenging conditions ● Sensitivity to social and community issues ADDITIONAL ASSETS ● VVB auditor certification (ISO 14064, ISO 14065) ● Experience with other standards (Gold Standard, Plan Vivo, CAR) ● Scientific publications in the field ● Established network with Brazilian institutions (IBAMA, ICMBio, etc.) ● Knowledge of Brazilian regulatory context (Código Florestal, CAR) ● Experience in community engagement and Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) CONDITIONS ● Competitive compensation package based on experience ● Frequent international travel covered ● Opportunity to work on high climate impact projects ● Career growth towards technical coordination responsibilities
