Job Description

As a Research Technician within the School of Cancer Sciences at the University of Southampton, you will be supporting the Mature Lymphoid Malignancies Observational Study (MLMS) and the CRUK accelerator programme Early Cancer Research Initiative Network on Monoclonal B-cell Lymphocytosis (ECRIN-M3) under the guidance of Professor Francesco Forconi. Your role will involve collaborating with a team of clinicians and scientists to investigate disease progression in B-cell leukaemias and lymphomas, with a focus on understanding the mechanisms at a molecular level. Your key responsibilities will include: - Processing primary leukaemia and lymphoma cells from various patient samples - Performing immunophenotyping, calcium flux assays, IGHV mutational analysis, RNA-seq, and IgSeqR - Maintaining accurate records and ensuring laboratory activities are conducted to high standards - Liaising with the Clinical Informatics Research Unit to input laboratory and clinical data into the research database and tissue bank repository - Ensuring data integrity by identifying any discrepancies between laboratory results and clinical records To excel in this role, you should be a motivated individual who can work both independently and as part of a team. Prior experience in laboratory work, especially in immunophenotyping and cell processing, is preferred. Knowledge of IGHV mutational analysis, RNA sequencing, and clinical data management systems will be advantageous. A strong attention to detail is essential, along with a good understanding of health and safety regulations. The position is based at the Southampton General Hospital campus within the School of Cancer Sciences, which provides modern, well-equipped laboratories. The working hours are flexible, except for one day a week when sample processing is required after 5 pm.
