Role & responsibilities Role of an Electronics Hardware Engineer (R&D Department) An Electronics Hardware Engineer in R&D is responsible for: Designing and developing electronic circuits (analog, digital, mixed-signal). Creating prototype hardware systems for testing and evaluation. Supporting the development of innovative electronic products by researching and implementing new technologies. Collaborating with cross-functional teams including software, mechanical, and product teams. 1. Circuit Design & Development Design schematics and layouts for PCBs using tools like Altium Designer, Eagle, OrCAD . Select appropriate electronic components (ICs, resistors, capacitors, etc.). Design analog, digital, or mixed-signal circuits depending on application needs. 2. Prototyping & Testing Build and test prototypes using breadboards or custom PCBs. Perform functional, stress, and reliability testing on hardware. Use equipment like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters , etc. 3. Simulation & Analysis Simulate circuits using tools like SPICE, Proteus, Multisim . Analyze performance to ensure it meets specs, safety, and compliance standards . 4. Documentation Prepare detailed technical documentation , including schematics, test plans, BOM (Bill of Materials), and design justifications. Maintain version control and design records for audits and certifications. 5. Collaboration & Integration Coordinate with embedded software , mechanical, and product development teams. Support firmware integration , especially for microcontroller-based designs. 6. Innovation & Research Research emerging technologies and evaluate new components and design methods . Work on patents or papers if required by the organization. Optimize power, size, cost, and performance of electronics. 7. Compliance & Standards Ensure designs comply with industry standards (e.g., EMC, RoHS, ISO).
