Lead - Robotics and Automation Mumbai,Maharashtra,India 3 years None Not disclosed On-site Full Time

Company Description Rasoi Robotics is a pioneering company in the FoodTech domain dedicated to simplifying commercial kitchen operations for Indian restaurants. Our core vision is to empower entrepreneurs in the restaurant or commercial kitchen business to manage their kitchen operations more efficiently. We innovate with smart kitchen equipment that significantly reduces the need for trained chefs, decreasing their involvement by at least 70%. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, our mission is to make commercial kitchen operations seamless and cost-effective. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based in Mumbai for a Lead – Robotics and Automation . The position involves being the single point of contact for all technology-related aspects, leading the design and implementation of innovative kitchen equipment powered by robotics and automation, and managing a team of engineers, both on-roll and consultants. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in Mechanical CAD , electronics design , and firmware programming . Responsibilities include end-to-end development, troubleshooting, and refinement of electromechanical systems to ensure the equipment is reliable, scalable, and ready for production deployment. Qualifications Diploma or Degree in Engineering preferred, but we're more interested in what you've worked on than what you've studied. We're looking for someone with practical experience across mechanical hardware, electronics, and software — especially in working with microcontrollers, firmware programming, and embedded systems . Strong project management skills and the ability to lead small, cross-functional teams are essential. Ideally, you’ve spent 2–3 years in a startup environment , wearing multiple hats, navigating chaos, and learning through trial and error. We're not necessarily looking for someone with the fanciest degree or the perfect resume. In fact, if you're a former founder or co-founder — especially one who’s tried to build in robotics, automation, hardware tech, or food-tech and faced failures along the way — we’d love to talk. We deeply value people who’ve been through the grind, taken risks, learned from failure, and still have the drive to build again. This role is for someone who’s ready to get their hands dirty, build with intensity, and help scale a robotics startup from the ground up. 🧠 A Day & Week in the Life of a Robotics Lead at Rasoi Robotics At Rasoi Robotics , every day begins with purpose — and a fair bit of chai-fueled chaos. As the Robotics Lead , your mornings typically start at the office with a team huddle to sync up, understand what’s moving forward, what’s stuck, and what needs immediate attention. This isn't just a status update — it’s about building clarity and momentum with a young, enthusiastic team. After this, you'll brief the founding team on the project's progress — sharing insights, surfacing risks, and highlighting wins. Communication is key here: crisp, candid, and constant. A major part of your role involves working hands-on with interns and freshly graduated engineers . These are carefully handpicked individuals — selected not only for their technical promise but also their curiosity and coachability. However, guiding them will demand your patience, mentorship, and a certain art of “gentle extraction” — helping them deliver quality work while steadily building their independence. In parallel, you'll work with a network of senior consultants — experts who bring years of experience in robotics, automation, and industrial design. While they’re available for guidance and insight, you’ll be the one driving outcomes, integrating their advice into the real work on the ground. Most days involve collaborating with product and industrial design partners , especially when iterating on the next version of an existing product or breathing life into a brand-new concept. You’ll find yourself toggling between brainstorming sessions, design reviews, and late-night CAD tweaks. Your core skills in mechanical CAD will be essential — whether you're designing a prototype for quick testing or finalizing models for production. You’ll also bring a working knowledge of electronics to the table, often being the one to fully support an end-to-end product from design to build. You’ll wear the Project Manager hat often — either managing the project yourself (if it’s a compact scope) or working closely with a PM who reports into you. This means juggling timelines, resources, dependencies, and sometimes even stepping in to get hands dirty when the project needs a push. Beyond engineering, you'll engage with vendors and procurement — identifying the right suppliers, negotiating lead times, and making sure what’s needed is sourced efficiently and cost-effectively. The Week at a Glance: Monday : Internal team alignment, sprint planning, CAD updates Tuesday : Vendor coordination, technical reviews, concept brainstorming Wednesday : Consultant calls, electronics debugging, prototype work Thursday : Project review with PM or founder, design documentation Friday : Final tests, next-week prep, knowledge sharing, and maybe a dosa at lunch 🍽️ This role isn’t just about managing machines — it’s about mentoring minds, bridging ideas, and building beautiful solutions that automate kitchens, one product at a time. If you're someone who thrives on multitasking, loves solving real-world problems, and believes in the future of food-tech, then this might just be your place. Remuneration & Growth Opportunity: Compensation for this role will typically be a 20–25% increment over your current remuneration , with flexibility for more based on how well your profile aligns with the role and how the discussions with the founding team evolve. For candidates with non-linear journeys — such as returning from overseas, taking a career break, or transitioning across industries — the final package will be determined after the technical evaluation rounds. ESOPs will be offered and will be benchmarked against the valuation from our most recent external investment round , ensuring alignment with long-term value creation. For someone who proves their mettle, earns the trust of the team, and shows unwavering commitment to the mission, there is also a potential path to a Co-Founder role — quietly, but significantly — if you're patient, resilient, and bold enough to claim it. How to Reach Out If you've made it this far and you’re feeling something stir — excitement, challenge, curiosity — then we should talk. You can email us at founders@rasoirobotics.com , but don’t just send a resume. Instead, here’s what we’d love to see: A short note or cover letter (1–2 paragraphs) on why this role speaks to you — not a generic one, but something honest. Your CV or portfolio — show us what you’ve built, fixed, or failed at. Bonus: If you’ve worked on something relevant (a build, a bug, a bot), share a photo, CAD file, GitHub link , or even a rough sketch. We’re not hiring a job title — we’re looking for someone bold enough to believe that robotics can transform how kitchens operate , and gritty enough to actually make that happen.
