PHC in India has struggled with fragmentation, with private providers dominating outpatient care and limited promotive health services. Major reforms under the National Health Mission and Ayushman Bharat have expanded PHC, particularly with Health and Wellness Centers (HWCs) focusing on comprehensive care, essential services, and preventive care. IPSI supports HWCs in delivering improved, accessible PHC nationwide. The India Primary Healthcare Support Initiative (IPHSI) in West Garo Hills, Meghalaya, aims to improve the Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) system by establishing a cycle of “demonstration, measurement, and recognition.” Partnering with the Indian Institute of Public Health Shillong (IIPHS), this initiative supports resource mobilization for effective primary care delivery. The project has three primary objectives: developing and implementing a District Implementation Plan, and strengthening local capacity Deliverables: The Field Project Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Project in West Garo Hills District and shall be executing IPSI activities at the block level. To track capacity building processes and results, a district scorecard will be created to highlight capacity building intervention activities. (2023) that used NFHS-V to assess prevalence of Zero Dose children in India demonstrated that in the northeastern region of India, Meghalaya (17.8%) had some of the highest prevalence figures. Vaccine hesitancy and mistrust in government initiatives often result in entire villages refusing to be vaccinated. In order to address this, the current project plans to implement a “Participatory Learning and Action” approach to address demand-side descrepancies in selected villages of Meghalaya. A quasi-experimental non-randomised controlled study design will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of this community-based intervention using quantitative and qualitative methods. Deliverables: The project staff will carry out the day-to-day activities at one of two sites under the project, under the supervision of the project coordinator. Key responsibilities include: Fulfilling various duties with relation to day-to-day project activities Coordinate with local health system actors and project staff in a team to execute project activities under supervision Monitoring and providing hands-on training to community health workers Conduct PLA meetings in assigned villages and train local facilitators in PLA methods Coordinate survey logistics, including scheduling, mapping out survey locations, and managing transportation arrangements.
