Solar Design Engineer and HV Substation Design Engineer (Rooftop / Ground-Mounted Solar Projects) Primary Role: Responsible for the design, engineering, and optimization of solar PV systems to ensure maximum efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Responsible for planning, designing, and engineering of high-voltage substations (AIS/GIS) including layout, protection, control, and integration with the grid. Key Responsibilities: System Design : Prepare PV system designs (rooftop/ground-mounted) including array layouts, single-line diagrams (SLD), and electrical drawings. Software Simulation : Use tools like PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, or SketchUp for energy yield assessment, shading analysis, and design validation. Electrical Sizing : Calculate cable sizing, inverter sizing, protection devices, earthing, and lightning protection. Compliance : Ensure designs follow IEC/IS codes, CEA regulations, DISCOM/CEIG requirements, and net-metering policies. BOQ Preparation : Prepare bills of quantities and technical specifications for procurement. Site Assessment : Conduct site visits, evaluate feasibility, and optimize system design based on available area, tilt, and shading. Coordination : Work with EPC teams, contractors, and clients for design approvals and execution. Performance Analysis : Monitor system performance post-installation and suggest improvements. Substation Layout Design : Develop physical layouts, equipment arrangement (transformers, breakers, isolators, busbars, control rooms). Single Line Diagram (SLD) & Schematics : Prepare electrical schematics, protection schemes, interlocking, and control wiring diagrams. Equipment Sizing & Specification : Select and size transformers, CT/PTs, circuit breakers, surge arresters, isolators, earthing, and cabling. Protection & Control Systems : Design protection relays, SCADA systems, metering, and automation systems. Grounding & Earthing : Design earthing systems as per IEEE/IS standards, step and touch potential calculations. Short-Circuit & Load Flow Studies : Perform studies using ETAP, DIgSILENT, or PSCAD to validate protection and equipment ratings. Compliance & Standards : Ensure designs adhere to IEC, IEEE, IS, CEA, and utility/grid codes. Civil/Structural Coordination : Coordinate with civil team for foundations, cable trenches, and structural drawings. Documentation & Approvals : Prepare detailed engineering documents, technical specifications, and liaise with utility/consultant for approvals. Testing & Commissioning Support : Assist site teams during erection, testing, and commissioning. Skills Required: Strong knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals. Proficiency in PV design software (PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, ETAP optional). Knowledge of solar panel, inverter, and BOS (Balance of System) components. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and layouts for new and existing projects, working closely with engineers and project managers. The draftsman will use computer-aided design (CAD) software to ensure precise documentation that complies with industry standards, project specifications, and safety regulations. Key Responsibilities: Create and update a variety of electrical drawings, including schematics, single-line diagrams (SLDs), wiring diagrams, and general arrangement (GA) layouts. Develop and modify detailed electrical plans for lighting, power distribution, cable routing, earthing, and fire alarm systems. Collaborate with electrical engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to interpret technical specifications and design requirements. Revise drawings based on red-line markups, engineering changes, and project updates to ensure accurate, up-to-date documentation. Ensure all electrical drawings and layouts adhere to relevant industry standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE) and local electrical codes. Maintain an organized system for project files, including drawing databases, revisions, and document control procedures. Assist in the preparation of Bill of Materials (BOM) by providing accurate component and material counts based on the drawings. Conduct site visits as needed to gather field information, verify design requirements, and ensure accurate "as-built" drawings. Support project teams by providing technical interpretation of electrical drawings and assisting in the resolution of design challenges. Qualifications: Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Drafting, or a related technical field. Solid understanding of electrical design principles, symbols, schematics, and industry standards. Experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) processes is an advantage.
