Principal Data Scientist - Generative AI and LLM & SLM Development

As a Lead/Principal Data Scientist at MakeMyTrip in Bangalore, you will play a crucial role in reimagining travel decisions using the power of AI. MakeMyTrip is an AI/ML/Data/Platform powered organization, dedicated to shaping the future of travel for Bharat customers through GenAI-centric innovations. Join us in leveraging Small Language Models (SLMs), Vernacular Speech-to-Text/Text-to-Speech (STT/TTS) technologies, and travel content systems to elevate systems, chatbots, customer experience (Cx), and content to the next level of excellence. In this role, your responsibilities will include designing, developing, and fine-tuning multilingual SLMs with advanced AI capabilities for applications such as travel destination expertise, Myra bot orchestration, hotel semantic search, and customer support bot assistance. You will also build custom Natural Language Inference (NLI) and reward-scoring models to enhance multi-agent response quality and relevance. Additionally, you will develop active learning pipelines for NLP, Named Entity Recognition (NER), conversational latent intent/concepts, travel-specific embeddings, and domain-specific SLM training. As a Lead data scientist, you will architect and enhance conversational AI systems to adapt and comprehend concepts/intents, NLP, and NER tasks across multiple lines of business. You will drive quality assurance through robust integration and experience testing, mentor engineering teams in advanced SLM and Generative AI analytics, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable solutions aligned with business goals. The ideal candidate for this role will have deep experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP & NLI), conversational NLP systems, SLM adaptor fine-tuning, SFT training, SLM pruning, and retriever frameworks in Q&A bots. Experience in contrastive learning, graph learning based embedding methods, and NLP active learning pipelines is preferred. Demonstrable experience in scaling models to large-scale search systems and critical reasoning skills are necessary, along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
