Principal Applied Science Manager

You will be part of the Microsoft Turing team, an innovative engineering and applied research team focused on delivering state-of-the-art deep learning models and conversational search experiences across Microsoft's ecosystem. As a Principal Applied Science Manager, you will lead multiple data science activities, collaborate with internal and external teams, and drive projects from design through implementation to shipping to users. - Drive projects from conception to implementation, including deep data analysis, heuristic development, model creation, and engineering pipeline setup. - Manage a team of applied scientists, assigning tasks, mentoring, and taking responsibility for their growth and output. - Document progress, assist junior team members, and align with stakeholders across different timezones. - Develop evaluation techniques, datasets, and criteria for model evaluations, focusing on SOTA models and metrics. - Hands-on involvement in fine-tuning language models, dataset creation, review, and continuous iteration. - Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field with relevant experience. - People management experience of at least 6 years. - Industrial experience coding in C++, C#, C, Java, or Python for at least 8 years. - Prior experience in data analysis, machine learning frameworks, deep learning concepts, and familiarity with PyTorch or TensorFlow. - Strong communication skills to convey technical details effectively across organizational boundaries.
