Key Responsibilities of Platform Project Leader (PPL)
1. Target Setting and System-Level Alignment
The PPL is responsible for defining and aligning technical, cost, and performance (TCP) targets across all projects within the platform.
Overall Target Setting:
- Set clear TCP targets for all projects, ensuring alignment with business goals and project timelines.
- Collaborate with
Product Planning (PP)
and Marketing
to define targets, including Financial Inputs (FI)
. - Ensure feasibility considerations are integrated, covering engineering, supplier capabilities, manufacturing processes, and cost constraints.
- Incorporate insights from
Project Portfolio Management (PPM)
regarding planning and resource availability.
System-Level Target Breakdown:
- Ensure that overall TCP targets are effectively translated into actionable system-level targets.
- Work closely with the
Product Engineering Head (PEH)
to define system-specific goals, ensuring alignment with platform objectives.
2. Delivery of Set Targets
The PPL is accountable for the successful delivery of TCP targets across all projects, leveraging cross-functional collaboration.
Accountability for Achievement:
- Drive the execution of TCP targets with support from platform team members and the broader delivery organization.
Engineering Responsibilities:
- Ensure the effective conversion of system-level targets into detailed technical specifications (SORs) and design documents through PEH.
- Oversee system-level trade-offs, ensuring they align with platform requirements and strategic goals.
Purchasing and Supplier Management:
- Ensure the timely completion of technical deliverables with minimal rework, through effective collaboration with PEH.
- Make informed techno-commercial decisions through the
Product Planning Head (PPH)
. - Verify that vendor panels and
Voice of the Business (VoB)
evaluations conducted by the Supplier Strategy Unit (SSU)
meet platform requirements.
Manufacturing Oversight:
- Ensure timely resolution of key manufacturing decisions, including make-or-buy assessments, manufacturing strategies (e.g., plant locations), in-house part development, and
PPAP (Production Part Approval Process)
closures through the Production Management Head (PMH)
.
3. Managing Trade-offs and Resource Optimization
To maintain project integrity, the PPL manages cross-functional trade-offs and optimizes resource allocation.
Cross-Functional Trade-offs:
- Make strategic decisions on inter-functional and inter-project trade-offs to minimize deviations from TCP targets.
Resource and Fund Management:
- Oversee inter-project fund transfers, ensuring optimal utilization without exceeding budgetary limits.
Conflict Resolution:
- Actively resolve conflicts between systems/functions, removing bottlenecks and ensuring smooth project execution.
- Exercise the authority to veto decisions that could negatively impact platform objectives.
Cost Management:
- Reallocate material costs and investments within predefined limits to maximize efficiency while maintaining project goals.
4. Handling Deviations (Risk Management & Decision-Making)
The PPL is responsible for managing deviations from TCP targets, ensuring risks are properly assessed and mitigated.
Deviation Management:
- Evaluate proposed TCP deviations for feasibility and make decisions on acceptance or rejection.
- Ensure all necessary vehicle-level TCP deviations are escalated appropriately, with timely approvals during the delivery phase.
5. Launch and Handover Management
The PPL ensures a smooth transition of projects from development to manufacturing and marketing.
Vehicle Handover:
- Ensure the timely handover of vehicles to
Manufacturing (Mfg.)
and Marketing & Sales (M&S)
with all required quality clearances. - Confirm that all project documentation, compliance checks, and quality standards are met before the handover.
