Plastic Design Engineer

Role & responsibilities

1. Product Design & Surfacing

• Develop Class-A and Class-B surfaces for interior and exterior trims using

  UG NX

  .
• Create fully parametric, manufacturable 3D models and drawings for plastic components.
  
• Ensure surface quality meets OEM standards, including highlights, curvature continuity (G0/G1/G2), and aesthetic requirements.
  

2. Plastics Engineering & DFM

• Design plastic parts considering

  DFM, DFA, DFS

  , tooling feasibility, parting lines, gating, ribs, clips, and snap-fits.
• Evaluate material selection for plastics (PP, ABS, PC, PC-ABS, Nylon, TPO, etc.) based on functional needs, durability, and cost.
  
• Interact with suppliers for feasibility studies and tool-design optimization.
  

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work with Styling, CAE, NVH, Vehicle Integration, and Manufacturing teams to refine designs.
  
• Support prototype builds, sample approvals, and engineering validation testing.
  
• Address issues from DV/PV testing, warranty feedback, and implement corrective actions.
  

4. Documentation & Release

• Create engineering documents: DFMEA, DVP&R, BOM, technical specifications.
  
• Manage design releases via PLM systems (e.g., ENOVIA/Teamcenter).
  

5. Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

• Use root-cause analysis tools (5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC) to resolve design or manufacturing issues.
  
• Enhance design processes for cost reduction, weight optimization, and quality improvement.

Preferred candidate profile

• Proficiency in

  UG NX(Surfacing, Part Design, GSD)

  .
• Strong understanding of

  plastic injection molding

  , tooling, mold flow analysis.
• Knowledge of GD&T, engineering plastics, and automotive regulatory standards.
  
• Familiarity with CAE inputs, tolerance stack-up and packaging constraints.
  

Experience

• 28 years of experience in automotive plastic components design (depending on seniority level).
  
• Experience in interiors (IP, console, trims, pillars) or exteriors (bumpers, grills, claddings) preferred.
