Key Responsibilities

Lactation Counsellor

To coordinate and monitor the care of newborns and provide lactation support to new mothers in the postpartum period.

Document & Identify high risk factors and problems, which may require consultation and intervention, and plans for appropriate follow up.

Collaborates with other members of the health care team to identify parent's educational and competency gaps related to breastfeeding and newborn assessment

The Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing safe, family-centered patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation plans for the breastfeeding/chest-feeding dyad, as well as for the pumping parent, and is fully collaborative with the patient, patients family.

To develop feeding plans for a range of infants from the normal newborn to the complex neonate. S/he makes clinical assessments, and uses current lactation theories and research to develop holistic, evidence-based breastfeeding support and feeding plans that address individual feeding issues.

Conducts prenatal breastfeeding classes and evaluates educational outcomes.

Provide emotional support for continued breastfeeding in difficult or complicated circumstances.

Physiotherapy :

• Impart knowledge and take part in providing education in preparation for childbirth and parenthood.
• Assess and treat any skeletal and muscular ailment or discomfort faced during pregnancy.
• Provide post natal exercise and give specialized treatment if necessary.
• Impart knowledge of effective relaxation, breathing awareness and positioning and other information that could help a woman in labour.
• Provide specialized physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, monitoring and management.
• Provide prenatal and postnatal physiotherapy services
• Carry out in patient rounds
• Observe and provide support to patients while making them walk inside the room.
• Teach postures, body mechanics and impart knowledge about the care and precautions to be taken post-delivery.
• Carry out OPD consultations as per the appointments made.
• Visit the LDR and teach Lamaze for women who are in the 1st and 2nd stage of labour.
• Addresses women’s issues related to childbirth, antenatal and postpartum disorders including lymphedema, osteoporosis, pelvic pain, labour pain etc.
• Maintaining records and documentation as per NABH

Major Job Qualifications / Specific Skills

Required Education:

BPT/MPT /Certified Lactation

Experience

1-3yrs experience as Physiotherapist/Lactation -Assessment of Patient /New Borne care
