Oracle Database Administrator

Overview

An Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of our Oracle database environments, particularly Oracle 12c and 19c, and should be well-versed in database administration on AIX and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating systems. The DBA works closely with developers, system administrators, and other IT professionals to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our database systems. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in SQL Server administration (5+ years), excellent problem-solving skills, and proactive attitude towards managing and optimizing database performance. Additional experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2019, 2022, and 2025) is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, patch, and upgrade Oracle databases (12c and 19c).
• Perform regular database maintenance tasks including backups, recovery, performance tuning, and monitoring.
• Perform database upgrades, patches, and migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum data availability.
• Implement and maintain database security measures to protect sensitive data, including user access controls, authentication, and data encryption.
• Optimize database performance through proactive monitoring and tuning (using tools like AWR, OEM, etc.).
• Create and manage database objects such as tables, views, indexes, procedures, and triggers.
• Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness using Oracle Data Guard, RMAN, and other tools.
• Collaborate with application developers to design and optimize database schemas, tables, and indexes for efficient data retrieval and storage.
• Assist in capacity planning and resource utilization analysis to ensure database scalability and optimal performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance problems, connectivity errors, and data corruption.
• Adhere to Bayview coding standards, SDLC, change management, and deployment standards.
• Maintain documentation of database architecture, configurations, and procedures.
• Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours support as needed.
• Stay updated with the latest Oracle technologies, best practices, and industry trends to recommend and implement improvements to the database infrastructure.

Preferred candidate profile

• BA/BS in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience as an Oracle Database Administrator, managing and supporting Oracle databases (12c, 19c, 23ai) in a production environment.
• Strong knowledge of AIX and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Oracle tools such as RMAN, OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager), Data Pump, and SQL*Plus.
• Familiarity with Oracle high availability and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Data Guard, RAC is a plus).
• Proficiency in writing complex SQL and PL/SQL scripts.
• Solid understanding of database security, auditing, and compliance requirements.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
• Experience with database administration on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is a plus.
• Hand-on database management experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2019, 2022) is a plus
• Experience in a Loan Origination/Servicing environment is a plus.
