Job Description

The duties required of a pediatric nurse in ICU include treating and educating patients about medical conditions and treatmentsestablishing care plans specialized for each patientobserving patients on a regular basisand consulting with physicians and other care professionals regarding each patients condition. They are responsible for administering medicationstarting and maintaining intravenous fluidsand checking to make sure doses are correct for each patients medical needs. Pediatric nurses in ICU deliver immunizationsperform in-depth physical assessmentsorder medicationsperform therapeutic treatmentsconduct routine developmental screeningsand care for children who are acutelychronicallyand critically ill. They are also responsible for interpreting the results of laboratory and diagnostic tests. The short term responsibilities of a pediatric nurse include taking blood pressuretemperaturerespiratory rate and heart ratecollecting samples of urine and stools for lab testssupervising patients and monitoring them for irregularities or new symptomsand keeping patient records. They must also notify doctors and other health care professionals of any changes in the patients progress or condition. Pediatric nurses in smallprivate offices may assist physicians by obtaining pertinent medical histories from patients and their parents. BLS and ACLS trained.
