As a Team Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in managing a team to support Sales & Use tax - Notices team a key component of our Global Returns Services within the Sales & Use product line. This position is based in our Pune office and presents exciting growth opportunities in a collaborative environment. You will lead a team that supports the Sales & Use Tax Notices function, ensuring resolution of client inquiries and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. What Youll Do Oversee and manage tax processing tasks in the team (approx. 50% of the time). Perform related duties as assigned by the higher management. Own attainment of high employee satisfaction and retention; lead development of programs and initiatives within group to attain high employee satisfaction. Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, presentation and facilitation skills Communicate the objective of the project, desired outcomes and measure success. Exposure to Goal setting for self and team members across all IC levels. Play a crucial part in hiring talent and grooming them for growth within the team members Understand the training needs well and collaborating with SMEs and L&D Experience in managing the performance discussions with the team members regularly Ensuring all Tax filing submissions are completed on-time, accurately and to Avalara targets on efficiency and profitability. Achieving key KPI targets set by the department. This may be subject to revision couple or more times yearly. Customer focused with excellent communication skills you will be able to explain and convey information clearly to clients (as may be required). Collaborating with all the stakeholders effectively without any escalation. Developing as a people manager, supporting employees by providing guidance, coaching, training and have regular 1:1's. Partner with manager on employee related issues, performance reviews & career conversations. Play important role for all Exec and Client escalations. Also propose appropriate RCAPA for future. What You Bring to the Table To succeed and thrive in this role, youll need: Overall experience 8 10 years. Sales & Use SME and experience in managing a team for 1 2 years min. Should have excellent language skills in English (oral and written) MBA in Finance (preferably) MS Excel (intermediary to Advance) skills. Role Type - IC (Individual contributor) Work Model - Remote - (Occasionally may be required in office) Shift - US shift hours - 6.00 pm to 3.00 am Reporting to Senior Manager, Tax Compliance Job Summary This is an individual contributor role, would require the candidate to work in US shift hours - 6.00 pm to 3.00 am. Supporting Indirect Tax and supplemental Returns as part of the role in Compliance team for Sales & Use or other Tax types. This role is based within the Global Returns Services in, India. A demanding role where attention to detail is extremely important. Working with a range of different types of clients in different jurisdictions, providing regular Sales & Use Tax return filings along with all other associated filings (e.g. Prepayment returns, Local returns). Candidates will be expected to have worked in a previous Tax and Accounting type function and be conversant with concepts such as Nexus. Customer focused with excellent communication skills you will be able to explain and convey information clearly to clients Job Duties Prepare, review, and file multi-jurisdictional sales/use, business and occupation, and gross receipts tax returns for monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual filings Manage a select group of customers as their primary point of contact Ability to research and resolve jurisdictional notices on behalf of customers Responsible for the on-boarding and validation of new sales/use tax returns customers Responsible for identifying and improving automation to serve our customers across a variety of market and tax verticals. What You'll Need to be Successful - Qualifications - Strong Technical Expertise & Understanding of processes - Core SUT experience - exclusively worked in Sales & Use Tax Domain. Worked with POA for Clients, Managed End to end Notices, Exemption Certificates. Interaction with Clients, state authorities & jurisdictions, & independently leading jurisdiction calls. SME: Typically requires a minimum of 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience. Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently yet still function as a team player. Ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet strict filing deadlines. Ability to learn and adapt to different software applications and tools. Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel (functions include power pivot, vlookup, hlookup, etc.) Aligned with US Business Hours -This role requires availability during standard US business hours to ensure seamless collaboration with our team and clients. (6.00 pm to 3.00 am) Eligible for Occasional US Travel (2-3 Times Annually). The ideal candidate holds a valid US visa and is open to traveling for key meetings, team events, or industry conferences approximately 2-3 times per year.
