As an MSSQL DBA Operations Support Subject Matter Expert (SME) at our technology services client, your role will involve managing and supporting MSSQL database systems with a focus on performance optimization, backup and recovery, data integrity, and troubleshooting using specific tools and technologies. Key Responsibilities: - Database Management: - Installation, Configuration, and Upgrades: Set up and maintain MSSQL database systems, including software upgrades and patches using tools like SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and SQL Server Configuration Manager. - Storage Management: Allocate storage space, manage tablespaces, and plan for future storage needs using tools like SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT). - User Management: Create and manage user accounts, assign permissions, and control access to the database using Active Directory and SQL Server security features. - Security: Implement and maintain security measures to protect data from unauthorized access and breaches using tools like SQL Server Audit and Transparent Data Encryption (TDE). - Performance Optimization: - Monitoring: Proactively monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and take corrective actions using tools like SQL Server Profiler, Performance Monitor, and third-party tools like SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer. - Tuning: Tune database parameters, SQL queries, and indexes to optimize performance using tools like Database Engine Tuning Advisor (DTA) and SQL Server Query Store. - Backup and Recovery: - Backups: Regularly back up databases to ensure data protection and disaster recovery using tools like SQL Server Maintenance Plans and third-party tools like Redgate SQL Backup. - Recovery: Restore databases from backups and resolve data corruption issues using tools like SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and third-party tools like Quest LiteSpeed. - Data Integrity: - Data Modeling: Work with data architects to design and implement efficient database schemas using tools like Microsoft Visio and ERStudio. - Data Validation: Ensure data accuracy and consistency through data validation and integrity checks using tools like SQL Server Data Quality Services (DQS). - Collaboration: - Developer Support: Collaborate with developers to design and implement new database features and applications using tools like Visual Studio and Azure DevOps. - User Support: Provide training and support to users on how to access and use the database. - Troubleshooting: - Problem Solving: Identify and resolve database issues, errors, and performance problems using tools like SQL Server Error Logs and Extended Events. - Documentation: Maintain documentation of database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps using tools like Confluence and SharePoint. Qualifications Required: - Technical Skills: - Strong knowledge of MSSQL database systems and related technologies. - Experience with database installation, configuration, and upgrades. - Proficiency in storage management, user management, and security implementation. - Expertise in performance monitoring, tuning, and optimization. - Knowledge of backup and recovery processes. - Familiarity with data modeling and validation techniques. - Soft Skills: - Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team. - Customer Service Orientation.
