1. Patient Care & Safety
- Conduct thorough patient identification and verification procedures.
- Perform comprehensive MRI safety screening for patients, attendants, and staff.
- Explain MRI procedures, prepare patients, and obtain consent when required.
- Position patients correctly using appropriate coils and immobilization devices.
- Monitor patients during scanning, including those under sedation or anesthesia.
- Provide immediate assistance in case of contrast reactions or medical emergencies.
2. MRI Equipment Operation
- Operate MRI scanners and related equipment as per established clinical protocols.
- Select proper pulse sequences, coils, and parameters based on exam requirements.
- Identify and correct image artifacts to ensure diagnostic-quality imaging.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of coils, work areas, and accessories.
- Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate maintenance with biomedical engineering.
3. Image Acquisition & Workflow Management
- Acquire high-quality images following radiologist-approved protocols.
- Enter accurate patient information in RIS/PACS and ensure timely image transfer.
- Perform required post-processing (MPR, MIP, diffusion, cardiac, neuro post-processing).
- Manage patient scheduling to ensure efficient workflow and minimal waiting time.
4. MRI Safety & Compliance
- Enforce MRI safety zoning (Zones IIV) and control access to the magnet room.
- Ensure safety of ferromagnetic equipment, oxygen cylinders, carts, infusion pumps, etc.
- Administer MRI contrast safely, following proper dosage and documentation standards.
- Adhere to ACR, institutional MRI safety guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
- Conduct MRI safety education for new staff and students.
5. Radiation Safety Management
- Develop, implement, and periodically review radiation safety policies.
- Ensure radiation protection measures for patients, staff, and the public.
- Maintain radiation safety signage, PPE availability, and access control in radiation areas.
- Oversee personal dosimetry programs and track exposure trends for all radiation workers.
- Conduct periodic radiation surveys, leakage tests, and equipment quality control checks.
6. Regulatory & Compliance Duties
- Ensure compliance with national regulatory bodies (AERB or local equivalent).
- Maintain mandatory radiation safety documentation, logbooks, and audit records.
- Coordinate and facilitate regulatory inspections and renewals of licenses/registrations.
- Investigate radiation incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Supervise safe handling, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials (if applicable).
- Coordinate periodic radiation safety training and competency assessments.
7. Department Leadership & Coordination
- Supervise MRI technologists, radiographers, CT technologists, and other department staff.
- Prepare staff duty rosters, on-call schedules, and ensure adequate staffing levels.
- Conduct orientation, mentoring, and skills training for new and existing staff.
- Coordinate with radiologists regarding imaging protocols, workflow, and clinical needs.
- Ensure smooth interdepartmental communication with emergency, anesthesia, wards, and OPD.
8. Quality Assurance & Administrative Duties
- Implement and monitor departmental quality assurance programs (QA/QC).
- Develop, revise, and maintain SOPs for MRI, CT, X-ray, Ultrasound, and other modalities.
- Prepare reports, statistics, and performance metrics for departmental review meetings.
- Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance of radiology equipment.
- Assist in budgeting, procurement, inventory control, and vendor communication.
- Maintain accreditation requirements (NABH or applicable standards).
9. Safety & Emergency Preparedness
- Lead MRI-specific emergency management (quench procedures, fire safety, patient collapse).
- Conduct regular fire, safety, and disaster drills in coordination with hospital safety teams.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure all staff are trained in MRI Safety Level I & II, radiation protection, and emergency protocols.
10. Patient Service & Departmental Standards
- Ensure patient-centered care, privacy, and comfort across all radiology services.
- Address patient feedback, complaints, and implement service recovery processes.
- Ensure timely report availability and smooth coordination with radiologists.
- Maintain a professional work environment adhering to hospital policies and ethical standards.
Education
: Diploma / Degree in Medical Imaging Technology Experience
: Proven experience and understanding of hospital Radiology & Imaging Services for 7+ years and should have minimum of 3 years of experience as Unit Head/In-charge - Radiology & Imaging Services.Communication Skills
: Strong interpersonal skills to engage with customers effectively.CRM Proficiency
: Familiarity with Hospital HIS tools.- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and work on strategies accordingly.
