This is an exciting opportunity to join a new consumer technology venture as a founding mobile engineer, building an AI-powered app for pet parents from day one.

Our client is looking for a Senior Mobile App Developer to own the architecture, development and performance of its flagship consumer mobile app. You’ll turn complex AI models into an intuitive, ultra-responsive app experience.

Company Description

Our client is building a new AI-powered consumer app for pet parents. The product brings together computer vision, audio, data and real-time inference to help people better understand and care for their pets.

The app is not yet built, so this is a foundational engineering role. Your technical decisions will directly shape the core product.

About The Role

You’ll architect and build the mobile app, connect it to real-time AI services, and create engaging consumer experiences. You’ll also set up release processes, quality standards and the technical roadmap as the engineering team grows.

This role will suit someone who enjoys ownership, cares deeply about performance and user experience, and wants to build a product from the ground up.

Responsibilities – What you’ll be doing:

Architecture & Engineering

• Architecting, building and maintaining a scalable, high-performance mobile app using React Native, Flutter, Swift or Kotlin.
• Connecting real-time AI endpoints, computer vision pipelines and voice models via REST/GraphQL APIs and WebSockets.
• Optimising for low latency, minimal battery drain, smooth frame rates and responsive video capture and stream processing.
• Implementing secure offline capabilities, state management and local data caching.

Product & User Experience

• Building engaging B2C user flows tailored for pet parents.
• Implementing in-app purchase and subscription infrastructure using tools such as RevenueCat, Stripe, App Store and Play Store billing.
• Implementing behavioural analytics.
• Leading delivery of onboarding flows, AI insights feeds, media capture pipelines and personalised push notifications.

Engineering Leadership

• Establishing CI/CD workflows, automated builds and test pipelines for App Store and Google Play releases.
• Maintaining high code quality through code reviews, automated unit and E2E testing, and continuous monitoring.
• Partnering with leadership to estimate complexity, set milestones and scale the engineering team.

Requirements – What we’re looking for:

• 5+ years of professional mobile app development experience.
• A track record of launching and scaling consumer-facing (B2C) apps.
• Deep proficiency in React Native or Flutter, or native Swift / Kotlin.
• Experience integrating cloud AI services, real-time data feeds or on-device ML runtimes such as Core ML or TensorFlow Lite.
• Experience with device camera integrations, video/audio processing, background location services or hardware permissions.
• Strong familiarity with App Store Connect and Google Play Console release management, guidelines and compliance.
• Strong command of Git and CI/CD tools such as Fastlane, Bitrise or GitHub Actions.
• Experience with mobile analytics and monitoring tools such as Firebase and Sentry.

Valuable Experience – Nice to Have:

• A background or interest in pet tech, IoT, health and fitness, or consumer hardware.
• Experience with real-time video/audio streaming protocols such as WebRTC.
• Experience optimising on-device machine learning.
• A personal passion for dogs and pet care innovation.
