Job Description

Role & responsibilities

Job Responsibilities Mechanical Engineer (Foundry Machine Installation)

Planning & Coordination

  • Review machine layout drawings, installation manuals, and vendor specifications.
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams for foundation readiness, utility provisions, and alignment of services.
  • Prepare installation schedules and resource planning for manpower, tools, and lifting equipment (EOT cranes, forklifts, etc.).

Machine Installation & Alignment

  • Supervise unloading, shifting, and safe placement of heavy foundry machines (furnaces, moulding lines, shot blasting machines, compressors, etc.).
  • Ensure proper foundation grouting, leveling, and alignment of machines using precision instruments (dial gauges, spirit levels, laser alignment tools).
  • Oversee assembly of machine parts, mechanical couplings, bearings, and gearboxes as per OEM guidelines.

Utility Connections & Commissioning

  • Supervise piping (compressed air, cooling water, hydraulic, lubrication) and ducting works.
  • Ensure proper installation of pumps, blowers, fans, and dust extraction systems.
  • Support trial runs, no-load tests, and load tests of installed equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues during pre-commissioning and handover stages.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Verify material quality and installation works against drawings, IS/ASTM standards, and OEM recommendations.
  • Implement safety protocols for working in foundry environments (high temperature, dust, heavy loads).
  • Maintain documentation of inspection checklists, deviation reports, and installation records.

AutoCAD & Documentation

  • Prepare/review machine layout drawings, foundation drawings, and utility routing plans in

    AutoCAD

    .
  • Modify machine drawings to reflect as-built conditions.
  • Generate installation reports, daily progress reports, and punch lists for project completion.

Team Supervision & Vendor Liaison

  • Guide technicians and fitters during installation activities.
  • Coordinate with equipment suppliers for technical clarifications and ensure adherence to warranty/AMC conditions.
  • Conduct training sessions for operators/maintenance staff on newly installed machines.

Preferred candidate profile

Preferred Candidate Profile Mechanical Engineer (Foundry Machine Installation)

  • Education

    :
    • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Diploma holders with extensive foundry/machine installation experience may also be considered).
  • Experience

    :
    • 3–7 years’ hands-on experience in

      installation, alignment, and commissioning

      of heavy industrial machinery (preferably in

      foundries, steel plants, or heavy engineering workshops

      ).
    • Familiarity with installation of

      furnaces, moulding lines, shot blasting machines, compressors, pumps, conveyors, and dust extraction systems

      .
  • Technical Skills

    :
    • Strong knowledge of

      mechanical assembly, bearings, couplings, hydraulics, pneumatics, piping, and ducting

      .
    • Proficient in

      AutoCAD

      for reviewing and modifying machine layout/foundation/utility drawings.
    • Understanding of

      precision alignment tools

      (laser alignment, dial gauges, etc.) and lifting/rigging practices.
    • Awareness of

      foundry safety norms, IS/ASTM standards, and OEM installation manuals

      .
  • Behavioral Attributes

    :
    • Strong team leadership and ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, electrical, E&I).
    • Problem-solving mindset with good troubleshooting skills during machine trials and commissioning.
    • Ability to prepare

      reports, as-built drawings, and documentation

      independently.
    • Willingness to work in

      challenging environments

      (high temperature, heavy dust, shift timings).
  • Added Advantage

    :
    • Exposure to

      3D design software

      (SolidWorks/Inventor) for equipment visualization.
    • Experience in

      maintenance

      of foundry machines (predictive/preventive).
    • Familiarity with

      EOT crane operation & rigging plans

      for safe machine handling.
