Job Purpose:

The CNC VMC (Vertical Machining Center) Utility Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the

installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of CNC machines, specifically Vertical

Machining Centers (VMCs), and related utility systems. This role ensures that the machinery and

associated systems operate at optimal performance, minimizing downtime and maximizing

productivity.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Perform regular preventive maintenance (PM) on CNC/VMC machines as per schedules.
  
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues.
  
• Repair spindles, ball screws, guideways, lubrication systems, tool changers, and coolant systems.
  
• Troubleshoot control systems (Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Haas, etc.).
  

2. Machine Installation & Calibration

• Assist in installation, alignment, and commissioning of CNC/VMC machines.
  
• Calibrate machine accuracy (backlash check, geometry alignment, leveling).
  
• Set and adjust parameters for CNC/VMC controls.
  

3. Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain service reports, maintenance logs, and spare parts records.
  
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and company SOPs.
  
• Report major breakdowns and root-cause analysis (RCA) findings.
  

4. Coordination

• Coordinate with production teams for planned shutdown maintenance.
  
• Communicate with OEM/Vendors for technical support or spare procurement.
  

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  
• Hands-on experience with CNC/VMC machine maintenance.
  
• Understanding of PLC basics and CNC controls (Fanuc/Siemens/etc.).
  
• Ability to read engineering drawings & electrical schematics.
  
• Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and lubrication systems.
  
• Problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  

Education & Experience

• ITI/Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field.
  
• 26 years of experience in CNC/VMC machine maintenance (or as required).
  
• Experience with brands like Haas, Fanuc, Makino, DMG, Mazak, Huron, or similar is a plus.
