Houseman Job Description for a 3-Star Hotel Job Title: Houseman / Houseperson Department: Housekeeping Reports to: Housekeeping Supervisor / Housekeeping Manager Position Summary: The Houseman is a key member of the housekeeping team, responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of all public areas of the hotel, as well as providing essential support to room attendants and guests. The Houseman ensures that the hotel's common spaces, guest corridors, and back-of-house areas are clean, well-maintained, and present a welcoming environment for all guests. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing excellent guest service. Key Responsibilities & Duties: Public Area Cleaning & Maintenance: Maintain the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of all public areas, including the lobby, hallways, restrooms, elevators, stairwells, and meeting rooms. Perform regular tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and polishing floors. Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces. Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the public areas. Housekeeping Support: Assist room attendants with heavy lifting, such as moving furniture, mattresses, and rollaway beds. Collect soiled linen and trash from housekeeping carts and guest rooms. Transport clean linen and supplies to housekeeping storage rooms on each floor, ensuring they are well-stocked and organized. Help with special cleaning projects as directed by the housekeeping supervisor. Guest Service: Respond promptly and courteously to guest requests, such as delivering extra amenities (towels, pillows, toiletries, etc.), rollaway beds, or cribs. Assist guests with luggage as needed. Maintain a friendly, professional, and helpful demeanor when interacting with guests and other hotel staff. Be knowledgeable about hotel services and local attractions to assist guests with general inquiries. Safety & Security: Report any damages, maintenance issues, or safety hazards immediately to the appropriate department. Follow all required procedures for handling and disposing of materials in accordance with hotel and OSHA standards. Handle lost and found items according to departmental procedures. Inventory & Equipment: Stock and maintain cleaning carts with designated supplies and equipment. Ensure all equipment is used and maintained properly and safely. Assist with inventory control and report any supply shortages to the supervisor. Develop and implement training programs tailored to the needs of learners (beginners, intermediate, advanced). Monitor pool activities to ensure guest safety and prevent accidents. Enforce pool rules, health, and safety regulations at all times. Provide first aid or emergency assistance when required. Maintain a professional and approachable manner with guests. Assist in organizing aquatic events, competitions, or fitness programs. Ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance of pool facilities and training equipment. Keep accurate records of class attendance and guest progress. Promote hotel wellness and recreation services to enhance guest satisfaction. Qualifications & Skills: Certification in Swimming Coaching / Lifeguard / CPR and First Aid (mandatory). Proven experience as a swimming coach, instructor, or lifeguard. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, enthusiasm, and ability to motivate learners. Knowledge of water safety rules and emergency response procedures. Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work Environment: Indoor or outdoor hotel swimming pool. Guest-facing role requiring professional grooming and courteous behavior.
