We are seeking a Remote Pre-Sales Engineer with strong experience in residential smart home and home cinema solutions, ideally with a CEDIA background. This role supports our sales and engineering teams by designing customized residential AV systems, preparing BOQs and quotations, and guiding clients through the technical pre-sales process—from initial discovery to handover. Your expertise will help deliver innovative, practical, and technically sound solutions to discerning homeowners, interior designers, and residential developers—with occasional exposure to small-scale commercial projects. Key Responsibilities Solution Design & Technical Consultation Analyze client needs, architectural plans, and site conditions (drawings, photos, remote walkthroughs) to recommend tailored smart home and home cinema solutions. Design system architectures for: Whole-home control and automation (lighting, HVAC, security, blinds) Multi-room AV systems Dedicated home cinemas and media rooms Intercom, networking, and access control systems Prepare technical documentation: system schematics, block diagrams, device layouts, rack elevations, and wiring plans. Ensure all designs meet best practices and relevant residential standards (e.g., CEDIA guidelines). BOQ & Quotation Preparation Create detailed BOQs including AV/control components, cabling, enclosures, and labor estimates. Develop quotations that align with client budgets and project scopes using vendor tools, margin calculators, and pricing databases. Liaise with suppliers to confirm pricing, lead times, and availability. Sales Support Assist sales team during consultations, presentations, and client calls by providing expert technical input. Participate in virtual site surveys and design review sessions with clients, interior designers, architects, and builders. Prepare documentation for RFPs and proposals targeting residential and select boutique commercial projects. Internal Collaboration Work closely with project managers, programmers, and installation teams to confirm solution viability and readiness. Provide technical handover documentation for seamless execution by operations teams. Documentation & Tools Use tools like XTEN-AV, AutoCAD, Visio, Excel, and residential lighting design software to produce accurate and professional documentation. Maintain a library of residential AV templates, standard solutions, and vendor price lists. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, IT, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience). 3+ years of experience in residential AV systems design or pre-sales engineering. Deep familiarity with smart home platforms (e.g., Control4, Loxone, Lutron, Ksenia), home cinema solutions, and residential automation. Understanding of AV distribution, acoustic treatment, lighting control, and residential networking. Comfortable using system design and layout tools such as XTEN-AV, AutoCAD, or Visio. Familiarity with leading residential AV brands (e.g., Control4, Lutron, Sonance, Arcam, Anthem, Kaleidescape, etc.). Excellent written and verbal communication skills in client-facing environments. Certifications preferred: CEDIA, AVIXA CTS/CTS-D, Control4, Lutron, or KNX. Preferred Skills Experience working with interior designers, builders, or architects on luxury residential projects. Knowledge of home cinema acoustic design, display sizing, and immersive audio (Dolby Atmos, etc.). Basic understanding of residential electrical systems, lighting loads, and retrofit limitations. Strong documentation and organizational skills in remote/virtual work environments.
