We are seeking a Research Intern to support KriSHE Carbon’s ongoing work in building a strong scientific and practical case for biochar adoption in Indian agriculture. The intern will conduct a literature survey of soil management practices , compile evidence on the impact of biochar on soil health (compared to existing practices), and structure a comparative research report that will be used in partnerships, advocacy, and project design. Responsibilities Conduct literature review of soil amendment practices in peninsular India (composting, mulching, manure application, stubble incorporation, etc.). Collect and analyze scientific studies and field research on biochar’s role in improving soil health, crop productivity, and emissions reduction. Create a comparative matrix of conventional practices vs. biochar adoption. Synthesize findings into a structured report (literature survey + comparative analysis + recommendations). Support preparation of visuals (tables, infographics, slide decks) summarizing findings for partners and donors. Regularly update the KriSHE Carbon team on progress through weekly check-ins. Qualifications Background in agriculture, soil science, environmental studies, or related fields . Strong desk research and writing skills, with ability to synthesize technical papers into clear insights. Familiarity with agricultural practices in India (preferred: peninsular India context). Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (experience in visualizing data is a plus). Self-driven, detail-oriented, and able to deliver within timelines. Screening Assignment This assignment is to assess your ability to research, analyze, and present findings clearly. Summarize 2-3 research papers or reports on crop residue management in India (rotavation, compost/FYM, biochar). Include citations and 2–3 bullet-point findings for each.(Max 2 pages) Create a table comparing at least three practices (rotavation, compost, biochar) across 4–5 parameters (e.g., carbon sequestration, GHG emissions, soil fertility, adoption). Assignment will be evaluated on the basis of depth of research and analytical clarity. Deliverables by End of Internship Comprehensive literature review document.
