Job description: Position: Safety Officer (Industrial) Location: Lanjigarh, Odisha Department: Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Reporting To: Lead HSE Key Responsibilities Implement and ensure compliance with statutory, organisational, and client-specific safety regulations. Conduct risk assessments, safety inspections, and audits across the plant, equipment, and operations. Develop and execute safety programs for high-risk areas such as conveyors, rotating machinery, vehicle movement zones, and dust-prone areas. Monitor and enforce permit-to-work systems, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and confined space entry protocols. Train and create awareness among employees and contract workers on industrial safety practices. Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, and prepare detailed reports with corrective and preventive actions. Maintain emergency preparedness, including safety drills, fire protection systems, and medical response coordination. Liaise with factory inspectorate, statutory authorities, and auditors to ensure compliance with legal obligations. Support in maintaining safety documentation such as registers, checklists, and records per Odisha Factory & Boiler Rules. Minimum Qualifications Post Diploma in Industrial Safety (PDIS) from SCTE & VT (State Council for Technical Education & Vocational Training, Odisha) – Mandatory. Basic Qualification: B.Sc., Diploma in Engineering, or B.Tech in any discipline. Experience Minimum 5 years of experience as a Safety Officer in heavy industries. Preferred sectors: Metal, Steel & Iron, Ports, or similar industrial projects. Key Skills In-depth knowledge of OSHA, Factories Act, and Odisha Factory & Boiler Safety Rules. Strong understanding of industrial hazards such as heavy material handling, fire & explosion risks, machine guarding, electrical, and dust-related hazards. Effective communication and training skills for workforce engagement. Strong safety documentation, reporting, and incident analysis skills. Additional Requirements Ability to handle emergencies with a proactive approach. Willingness to work in shifts and industrial site environments. Computer literacy (MS Office, safety management software/tools).
