Position Title Assistant Teaching Professor of Industrial & Manufacturing Systems Engineering Appointment Type Faculty Job Description Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) and the Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS), in the College of Engineering at Iowa State University (ISU), invite applications for the position of Assistant Teaching Professor in the area of industrial automation and Industry 4.0. The appointment for this position is anticipated to begin as early as September 1, 2025 and the initial length of the appointment will be 3 years. The IMSE Department has recently expanded their industrial automation laboratory, and is creating a unique laboratory scale manufacturing production line that will produce a product to be marketed and distributed on campus. This production line will have a variety of processes and automation devices and will be utilizing different communication protocols as an educational and research testbed for Industry 4.0. CIRAS provides outreach, research, support and education to Iowa manufacturers through a variety of channels including the Digital Manufacturing Lab powered by Alliant Energy. This facility supports demonstration and risk reduction activities for Iowa industry in a variety of manufacturing technologies. This position is a joint appointment with 75% and 25% of effort in IMSE and CIRAS, respectively. The candidate is expected to deliver excellent teaching, as well as prepare and deliver short training or continuing education content for working professionals. This candidate will also work to develop, maintain, and continually improve the new production line. Working with industry will be critical in this position, as the successful candidate will support students as they work on industrial sourced projects and will collaborate directly with Iowa companies to advance their industrial automation and Industry 4.0 goals. The candidate is expected to engage in institutional service. Experience in deploying, utilizing and troubleshooting industrial automation/Industry 4.0 technologies, such as PLC, HMI, robotics, and vision systems.
