Job Summary: We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Senior Purchasing Manager – Steel Procurement who is well-versed in all types of steel and structural steel products. The ideal candidate will take full ownership of our steel procurement vertical, ensuring timely sourcing, price negotiation, and maintaining strong supplier relationships across India. This role requires deep knowledge of steel grades, categories (TMT, MS, GI, HR, CR, PEB, structural steel, etc.), and an ability to drive cost-efficient procurement aligned with business growth. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Procurement: Lead procurement strategy for all steel categories including TMT, HR Coils, CR Sheets, GI/GL, angles, channels, beams, PEB structures, etc. Identify and develop supplier base across India, ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery. Forecast material requirements based on sales and project pipeline. Negotiation & Vendor Management: Negotiate pricing, credit terms, and delivery timelines with mills, stockists, and authorized distributors. Build and maintain strong vendor relationships ensuring long-term procurement stability. Manage rate contracts and MOUs with strategic suppliers. Operations & Compliance: Ensure timely issuance of Purchase Orders (POs) and resolve pricing, quantity, and delivery disputes. Oversee timely PI (Proforma Invoice) generation and documentation with accuracy. Ensure compliance with internal SOPs, quality norms, and client specifications. Data, Analysis & Reporting: Track steel market trends, rate fluctuations, and stock availability. Maintain cost sheets, comparative price analysis, and procurement MIS reports. Drive cost-saving initiatives and vendor performance evaluations. Team Leadership (Optional if applicable): Guide and mentor a team of junior buyers or procurement executives. Coordinate with logistics, sales, and finance departments for smooth execution. Key Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Supply Chain / Business. (MBA preferred but not mandatory) 6–12 years of relevant experience in steel procurement (preferably in trading, EPC, infrastructure, or construction domains). In-depth knowledge of various steel types, standards (IS codes), and supplier ecosystem. Strong negotiation, analytical, and vendor management skills. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, and documentation workflows. Preferred Attributes: Prior experience with brands like SAIL, JSPL, TATA, AM/NS, etc. Strong commercial acumen and ability to take decisions in a fast-paced environment. Network of reliable mills and stockists across India is a strong advantage.
