EBS Data Engineering Team

is looking for a strong

Staff Data Engineer

who will design and build next-generation data platforms and solutions that power analytics, AI, and decision-making across Walmart. You'll define scalable architecture, build reliable pipelines, and mentor others to uphold the highest standards of data engineering excellence.As part of the

Enterprise Business Services team in Bangalore

, your solutions will directly impact business functions across multiple Walmart markets, handling complex, large-scale data challenges that span countries, domains, and users.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable, reliable, and secure data pipelines and systems.
  • Architect modern data platforms leveraging cloud-based technologies (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, or Azure Synapse).
  • Partner with cross-functional teams product, analytics, data science to translate business needs into technical data solutions.
  • Champion data best practices, establish standards for data modeling, pipeline design, and data quality.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, perform design and code reviews, and set high technical standards across the team.
  • Drive adoption of emerging tools and frameworks (e.g., dbt, Airflow, Kafka, Spark).
  • Ensure operational excellence monitoring, observability, and performance tuning of data workflows.
  • Collaborate with global Walmart engineering teams to contribute to shared platforms and reusable data assets.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the data engineering community.
  • Contribute to Walmart's broader data strategy enabling data democratization, governance, and scalability.

What You'll Bring

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in data engineering, including 2+ years in a senior or staff-level technical role.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and ETL/ELT frameworks (Airflow, dbt, Glue, etc.).
    • Deep knowledge of data lake and data warehouse architectures.
    • Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, or Azure Synapse).
    • Strong understanding of data modelling techniques dimensional, normalized, or data vault.
    • Familiarity with streaming technologies (Kafka, Kinesis, Flink) and real-time processing.
    • Experience with CI/CD, Git, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Experience in implementing metadata management, data lineage, and data quality frameworks.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong communication and ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
    • Proven ability to lead by example, mentor teams, and foster collaboration.
  • Bonus Points: Exposure to machine learning pipelines, AI/LLM data preparation, or data observability tools (Great Expectations, Monte Carlo, etc.).
