Last Mile Strategy & Science Team is a cross-functional team driving Walmart's last-mile innovation by combining strategic thinking, advance analytics and data science, and operational excellence. We design and execute strategic initiatives, develop metrics and performance frameworks, and build AI-enabled insight engines that help identify opportunities, guide decisions, and drive execution at scale.
Job Summary :
We are looking for high-Caliber problem-solvers from both strategy and data science backgrounds to join Walmart's Last Mile Strategy & Science team. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of business strategy, advanced analytics & data science, and operations, shaping Walmart's last-mile delivery network at global scale. You will analyze data, structure insights, and lead execution of initiatives that improve delivery cost-to-serve, speed, and customer / driver experience. Depending on your background, you may focus on strategic problem-solving framing business challenges, building cases, and guiding pilots or on AI/ML-driven analytics designing models, running simulations, and deploying solutions that automate decisions and improve operational outcomes. This is an opportunity to work closely with senior business leaders, data scientists, and technology teams to translate data-driven insights into tangible business and operational impact.
What You'll do:
- Analyze complex business problems related to cost-to-serve optimization, delivery speed, customer and driver experience.
- Conduct scoping, research, and quantitative analysis, including scenario modelling, experimentation, and business case development.
- For candidates with a data-science focus: design and deploy predictive models, ML algorithms, simulations, and AI-enabled tools to optimize driver supply, batching, routing, and catchment strategies.
- For candidates with a strategy focus: drive problem-framing, solution design, and pilot execution, translating data-driven insights into scaled operational initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Operations, Finance, Tech, Product) to align on priorities and execute initiatives.
- Build and maintain KPI definitions, dashboards, and reporting frameworks to track progress and ensure visibility of outcomes.
- Present clear, data-driven insights and recommendations to leadership, influencing decision-making and guiding trade-offs.
- Contribute to a culture of rigorous problem-solving, innovation, and continuous improvement.
What You'll bring:
- 49 years of relevant experience:
- Strategy Track: management consulting or corporate strategy / business operations.
- Data Science Track: hands-on experience in data science / advanced analytics; MS/PhD in Data Science, Compute Science, Operational Research (preferred)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to structure ambiguous problems and derive actionable insights from large datasets.
- Proficiency in tools relevant to your focus area:
- Strategy: Excel / SQL / visualization tools (preferred).
- Data Science: Python (or R), SQL, cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Big Query, GCP, Azure), plus experience with experimentation and distributed computing (e.g., Spark, Hive).
- Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment, managing multiple priorities with high attention to detail.
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work closely with both technical and non-technical partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting insights and recommendations to senior leaders.
- (Preferred) Prior exposure to logistics, supply-chain, or last-mile delivery operations.
