Job Overview

A cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS) ICU doctor is an intensivist who provides critical care to patients recovering from complex heart, lung, and vascular surgeries.

Location- Panchkula, Haryana

Responsibilities

  • Clinical assessment and management: Diagnose and treat complex, life-threatening conditions, such as respiratory failure, organ failure, sepsis, and complications from surgery.
  • Perform and interpret advanced diagnostic tests to assess a patient's condition.
  • Monitor a patient's vital signs and progress continuously, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
  • Procedural expertise: Perform critical medical procedures such as intubation, central line placement, chest tube insertion, and management of advanced circulatory support devices like ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation).
  • Oversee the patient's recovery from mechanical ventilation and other life-support systems.
  • Post-operative care: Focus on the specialized needs of patients recovering from complex cardiothoracic and vascular surgeries, including coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), valve repair or replacement, lung resections, and vascular reconstructions.
  • Recognize and manage post-operative complications such as bleeding, arrhythmias, and stroke.
  • Coordination and teamwork: Work as a leader within a multidisciplinary team that includes cardiothoracic surgeons, nurses, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
  • Ensure a clear chain of command and effective communication among all team members to ensure patient safety.
  • Regularly brief the primary surgeon and other consultants on a patient's status.
  • Communication and advocacy: Communicate effectively and with empathy to patients and their families regarding medical conditions, procedures, and prognoses, especially in uncertain situations.
  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring the patient's best interests are prioritized. This includes initiating end-of-life care discussions when necessary.
  • Continuous improvement and training: Stay up-to-date with the latest medical research and advancements in critical care medicine.
  • Actively participate in departmental rounds, teaching junior medical staff and residents.
  • Contribute to research activities related to critical care medicine.

Requirements

  • A medical degree (e.g., MBBS, MD).
  • Residency training in a relevant specialty like internal medicine, anesthesiology, or surgery.
  • Specialized fellowship training and board certification in Critical Care Medicine.
  • Experience in high-quality critical care centers.
  • Additional certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) are also required.
