Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician Department: Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Reports To: Laboratory Manager / Pathologist Location: Highland Community Hospital - Ujan Tarapur, Poilapool Road, Silchar-Assam - 788098 Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time Position Summary Highland Community Hospital is seeking a qualified and dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Laboratory Services Department. The incumbent will be responsible for performing a wide range of clinical laboratory tests and procedures to support the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and compliance with established hospital and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities Conduct routine and specialized laboratory tests in hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, serology, urinalysis, and blood bank. Prepare and process specimens in accordance with standard operating procedures and infection control guidelines. Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment; ensure functionality and accuracy of results. Verify and record test data, ensuring results are entered accurately into the hospital information system. Perform quality control checks and participate in quality assurance programs to maintain compliance with accreditation requirements. Report critical and abnormal results to the attending physician or nursing staff promptly. Maintain laboratory records, logs, and inventory in accordance with hospital policies. Adhere to all safety protocols, confidentiality policies, and ethical standards of medical practice. Participate in ongoing education, training, and departmental meetings as required. Qualifications and Requirements Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent field. Current certification or eligibility for certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT / ASCP or equivalent) . Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital environment preferred. Strong knowledge of laboratory instruments, analytical techniques, and quality control procedures. Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and basic computer applications. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work efficiently under pressure and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced hospital environment. Working Conditions Hospital-based clinical laboratory environment. Exposure to biological specimens, chemicals, and infectious agents. Rotational shifts, including weekends, nights, and holidays, may be required.
