Job Description

Job Summary:

A General Medicine Physician is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing common to complex medical conditions in adult patients. They provide comprehensive care, focusing on prevention, early detection, and treatment of a wide variety of health problems, including chronic illnesses, infectious diseases, cardiovascular issues, and respiratory conditions. They may also coordinate care with specialists as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

  • Conduct thorough physical examinations of patients.
  • Take patient medical histories and review their symptoms.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests (lab tests, X-rays, ECGs, etc.).
  • Diagnose common and complex medical conditions.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for a variety of medical conditions.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as necessary.
  • Manage long-term care for chronic conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and asthma.
  • Preventive Healthcare:
  • Provide health screenings and preventative care, including vaccinations and lifestyle counseling.
  • Educate patients on managing chronic conditions, healthy living, and disease prevention.
  • Patient Education and Support:
  • Educate patients and their families on their health conditions, treatment options, and preventive measures.
  • Provide counseling on maintaining mental health and well-being.
  • Collaboration with Specialists:
  • Refer patients to specialists when necessary for further evaluation or treatment.
  • Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive treatment.
  • Record Keeping and Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using electronic health record systems.
  • Document patient interactions, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
  • Emergency Care:
  • Respond to urgent and emergency situations when necessary.
  • Manage acute medical conditions until the appropriate level of care is available.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • MBBS, Medical degree MD from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a residency in internal medicine.
  • Board certification or eligibility in internal medicine (KMC).
  • Strong knowledge of medical conditions, treatments, and diagnostic techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients and colleagues.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and manage multiple aspects of patient care.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
