Flora Carbon AI is a climate-tech startup that develops forestry carbon projects and builds AI-powered digital MRV (dMRV) tools to make smallholder and community projects audit-ready at scale. We’re hiring a Founding AI Engineer to architect and ship core products - from fine-tuned GPT models to our Carbon Calculator and Tree Monitoring apps. You’ll work end-to-end across modeling, data, and product, partnering with forestry domain experts to turn complex methodologies into simple, reliable software. Responsibilities Build AI-powered dMRV products : design, train, and deploy models powering our Carbon Calculator , Tree Monitoring (growth/health/DBH proxies) , and document automation (PDD drafting, evidence packs). LLM & agent systems : fine-tune/evaluate GPT-class models; design RAG pipelines; enforce safeguards; optimize cost/latency; integrate with vector stores and tool use. Geospatial & remote sensing ML : develop workflows for land eligibility, LULC change detection, and biomass proxies using GIS/GEE , Sentinel/Landsat, and field plots; integrate with allometric equations. Qualifications 1-2+ years in AI/ML engineering with shipped, user-facing ML products (preferably at an early-stage startup). Strong in Python , PyTorch/TensorFlow/JAX , data structures, and software design. Hands-on with LLMs (fine-tuning, RAG, evals), embeddings , and tool/agent frameworks . Passion for nature and climate action ; comfort reading scientific methods and turning them into code.
