Engineering Manager, Back End

As an Engineering Manager at Agoda, you will play a crucial role in leading one or more engineering teams. You will be hands-on, providing expert coaching and guidance to engineers, writing and reviewing code, and staying updated with industry trends to architect, engineer, and maintain systems elegantly and at scale. Your passion for technology and building things will drive you to excel in this role. Key Responsibilities: - Be hands-on in writing and reviewing code, coaching engineers, and guiding them expertly. - Possess a strong love for engineering and a desire to build things elegantly and at scale. - Have solid experience in all parts of the technology stack, including infrastructure, client-side, back end, performance, and data. - Focus on developing people by inspiring them to achieve their potential and integrating new talent into the business effectively. Qualifications Required: - Proficiency in at least 1 programming language (Java, Scala, C#). - Strong experience in systems architecture, especially in complex, scalable, and fault-tolerant distributed systems. - Demonstrable experience as a system owner with operational responsibility. - Proficiency in lower-level engineering concepts such as garbage collection, context switching, and threading. - Familiarity with DevOps culture, agility, leanness, automation, and CI/CD. - Good understanding of application security. - Previous experience in successful agile development teams and leading engineering teams with 5+ direct reports. - Ability to make autonomous decisions, set KPIs, and take ownership with a data-driven decision-making approach.
